I collect micro-sighted single sixes only. This gun was found by a dear friend of mine- a well-known Alabama Ruger and fire-arms collector. I would like to know your opinion of this like-new flatgate single six. All comments on your encounters with the micro-sighted single sixes will be highly appreciated! I've found these guns really hard to find. I've asked a lot of RCA members and they've also found this to be true. Yes, I know they won't letter but could a few guns have left the factory with the micro-sights installed? I have some examples that are like new and some that are well used but not abused.
Thanks!

nope sorry, they did not "leave" ( ship out) in any production form with those sights, YES< I'd bet the farm, that Mr Ruger would have done the job for ANY of his friends, "if needed, or asked", that was the hot set up of that era, and eventually caused them to come out with the SC lines,,,folks wanted "adjustable rear sights" ......
as for the "red" colored eagle, seen many done over the years, most likely done at the same time, the shop ( or person) did the custom sight work...or could have been added at ANY time the past 50 years or so...nice looking gun by the way..it is what it is, and proper for the era, just NOT "factory original" issue...............but as we like to say, "never say never ,with Ruger...." some salesman ( may he rest in peace...) just may have got some sort of thing done ,for a GOOD customer, and just may have documented the work, but again, thats NOT "production"....listed on the normal "dealers" sheets...........

I concur with my compadres. I've not heard of ONE Single-Six being "lettered" as fitted with Micro Sights in Southport. Oh, I bet Ruger tested one or two but they were an "add on" and not "Factory".

Sure, I have the sight kits in my goodie box and I have a Single-Six that sports Micro Sights, but............

Now, about those Red Eagles. Their appearance certainly "warns me" that the gun has been "messed with"........

Americal,

I'd love to see a close-up photo of how the front sight is attached. It sure looks like a clean job. I've seen a few SS's with rear Micro sights like yours, but they've always had awful home-brewed front sights. Obviously, a previous owner really liked that revolver.

Unc.

The Micro Front Sight for the Ruger Single-Six contains a "slot" for the entire Ruger sight to slide in. A tiny little pin is included so a hole can be drilled and the retaining pin can be installed.

The retaining pin is visible at the top of the package containing the Single-Six "Kit".

I've refrained from installing the retaining pin in my "Enhanced Single-Six" since I know I'm not taking it out "in the field...."

Thanks for the info flatgate. Now I know why I can't see a solder line or bare metal. Do you think someone modified the front sight blade to an angled ramp or did Micro make them that way too?

Thanks for commints guys. Sometimes I wish the gun had the BLACK bird   but that is the way it was found-- most ruger collectors just keep looking at grips off of the gun :? they say staking looks right as can be and paint is smooth as factory but I know Ruger never sent out or letter guns-- single sixes with micro sights or red birds-- I just like them have -- 14 of them now with another one promised in Jan. I hope I do not bore you guys with this topic   I hope to post some more micro guns 6 of them have double pins connecting front sight, rest one pin holding blade to bottom portion of micro sight with sight glued on or attached someway to original front sight :? have all 3 front sight configurations--sloped--square--notched thanks again--only have one with red bird thank-goodness :)

americal, there's nothing wrong with your gun. Many owners of the early Single-Sixes "spruced up" their guns with stuff like the after-market sights and red-painted grip medallions, along with the various after-market grip panels. Guns so equipped are a legacy of the long-time interest in these fine guns.

Thanks for sharing the pics with us.

:D

I believe Micro offered three or four different "front sight blades". I've only seen the "Square Style" and the "Ramp" style but I think a Patridge was also offered.

I've seen 1st. Generation Colt SAA's fitted with Micro Sights! What do you suppose that does to the value? Eee-yeow!

:D

8) :) I think your focus is remarkable and the fact that you have rather "cornered the market" proves the point. I have wandered this field for some 40+ years and only owned two of these Micro sighted revolvers. You own one of them. I will keep on the lookout for more, for you. Keep up the hunt! All the Best, MIKE

Very interesting thread! to say the least! :)
About 12 years ago a old time collector that is no longer with us told me & sold me Two pairs of RSS grips one Hard Rubber & the other Wood that he painted the Eagles Red that you would swear they were Factory & then he did one in Standard Auto Wood grip that I could not believe how well he did. He said he had been doing them for years. If there is a will there will be always a way to make some look orginal. J/S

Thanks Steve :) I think that is what happened on my ruger :!: :!: whats confusing A little bit is that about 6 of these guns are like NIB--- why would anyone go to trouble of adding these sights and not shooting gun :? The other's I have are well used also the 6 all have double pin attachment to orig. front sight which takes A gunsmith more than likely to drill two tiny holes for the pins and not A one has A ding or scratch very good workmanship on installing sights---3--that are not drilled have factory stag grips GO FIGURE :!: :!: but I sure enjoy looking for these guns :D ever since I saw the one in John Dougan's older book.

I want to thank Rugerguy and Hawkeye for selling me their micro finds :!: :!: Boy was I a happy guy :D & to top it off 28's gun had the notch front sight, which I had no example and Dan's gun had a little different sloped style front sight JACKPOT for me 8) 8) thanks again & another forum member has promised me his gun--micro mag. only which I do not have :!: A GREAT bunch of guys here thanks for forum FLATGATE. Micro sights will always be marked both front and back MICRO :) IF only I could talk Flatgate out of those sights in package :p
