A friend and former forum member here, SgtGarcia, passed away a few months ago. I'm in charge of inventory and selling his firearms. He has 2 (so-far) original 44 3 screw flat tops, one with 6 1/2" barrel and one with 7 1/2" barrel. The 7 1/2" has sambar stags on it. Both revolvers are in decent, but not mint condition. Does anybody have a possible value on these?

Generally a 7.5" is worth more due to the scarce barrel length. But the sides of the hammer appear to be blue, which leads me to think that the gun may have been reblued. A reblued gun is thought of to be "shooter grade".

I'd put the 6.5" at around $700-750 in that condition.

The 7.5" would be about $1000 (even for reblued) plus the value of the grips which would be in the $300 (non-factory with medallion added) to S650 (factory) range.

Looks like the 7.5 incher is a 4 digit serial too
Well, if that's the case, it has been re-barreled and is worth less. And on closer scrutiny, I see an eagle on the barrel, so it isn't even a flattop barrel but rather one off a Super Blackhawk. OK, I'll change my estimate on that one to maybe $500-600 for a re-barreled 6.5" gun with a 7.5" Super barrel added. And with all that tinkering, I'll assume the stags are not factory and put the whole gun at about $850.

And that's why you ask the experts. The 7 1/2" is a 4 digit gun and the barrel does have the Ruger eagle on it. How would I tell if the grips are factory or not?

Good info above and to me also appears reblued high polish , wrong barrel and not sure by th e picture of the hammer is.was blued or its just "patina" they sit, no oil can they get dark on the sides,,,,,holes in the frame are dished slightly sign of a reblue...those are early stag grips not "Sanbar" which are later, and more of a whitish appearance....would have to see pictrues of the back s of the grip panels, and as I noted being early the set back and down of the medallions...( had to because of the dip in the bark, front ,top edge of the left panel...still ANY good old stags are worth $300 or more, so that being said the long barrel gun is "a sum of the total of the parts" as 'WmG' noted above.....sorry to hear of his passing, have not talked with him for some time, thought he used to live in Penna???

Thanks for the info rugerguy. No, he lived in western Nebraska. Originally from Vermont. I'll be putting both of these in the classifieds soon. Sure glad I asked the questions before I listed it.

Thanks again for all the help. The 7.5 is going to a new home. I'll probably put 6.5 on classifieds in the next day or so.

The Old Model Flatops are my favorites! Hope they haven't been "Converted"...
