Got to go out to the range today with my father, he had just got him a new SA XD in .40SW. This morning I broke down my MKIII and after a good 30 minutes of fiddling with it I got it together and packed it up for the trip. The bad thing about the MK .22s is that the first break down is a PITA, but any time after that is generally much faster and easier.
Put a good 200 rounds through the MKIII and another 150 through my SR9, no issues in the SR9, but a few jams (1-2 per 50) and light-strikes (1 per mag) on the MKIII. My dad's XD, zero problems, accuracy-wise for him it was pretty good, solid 4" groups, flyers were vertical and not horizontal from his PoA. Different story for me shooting that thing, probably would group better if I shot a shotgun at my target.
The SR9 has always shot flawlessly and still today that was no different. The only real difference is in how I am able to make myself shoot. Will the target look like someone who was an amateur or someone who knew what they were doing? Today was a bit of both lol, was anxious to just punch some paper with not much regard to 'accuracy'. I know what my gun can do if I take my time, however, I'm young, impatient and hell, just like to shoot. But when I do settle down and take my time, I'm able to punch one ragged hole with a couple flyers every now and then. I've lost count of my ammo but I know I'm between 1500 and 2000. I lost a lot of range time and didn't shoot much this year because of the price of gas and ammo, and any range we have access to is a good 30-45 minute drive from home. Next year should be a little different I think.
The trigger on the XD was much lighter than the SR9's but had more overtravel and take up than the SR9 IMO. I shoot my SR9 better than the XD, but the grip is thicker and it was a new gun to me, so I can't compare the two like that. Granted it's thicker in the grip, it still doesn't feel too bad in comparison to the thin SR9. The recoil is much harsher than the SR9, but again, it's a different caliber and so on and so forth. The XD also hurls brass like nothing I've seen in a while....he had to move over a bay so the brass would quit hitting me, one went down my shirt collar, while over 2 bays from me. I was shooting it and it the brass bounced off the steel mesh dividing curtain and came back and hit my ear protector, scared the crap outta me too.
Main reason I say this is my first trip to the range post-op is because I may or may not have my nervous system being effected like before surgery (the cyst in my spinal cord). Before my hands weren't the steadiest and they still aren't, but they seem a little better. Combat Accurate is enough when your hands are normally a tad shaky all day.
