An 89 year-old lady has asked me to sell her late husband's guns. The fact is- she needs the money, That is why she wants them sold after all this time (he died in January of 1986). This is the first one I am listing for her. I will get another one and take pics of it later, and so on, until they are sold. Please bear with me and call me out if I have anything wrong. They aren't mine, and I am not familiar with most of them.
This is a Model 50 Winchester. As I understand the Winchester site, this serial number is a 1st-year early production shotgun. Pre-'64 model, which was the predecessor to the Model 1400. It has sat untouched since Mr. Edward's death until now. When I picked it up from her, it had light rust on it from sitting. I have tried to get pictures that show its true condition from one end to the other. There is no deep pitting or serious rust, but there are freckles scattered along the entire gun. The metal is still slick to the touch- not rough. I have no way of knowing, but I suspect the bluing and wood finish is original. It was Mr. Edward's bird gun (everyone here hunted quail until the coyotes and turkeys moved in here and the birds disappeared in the early 2000's). The 4-digit serial number is 8526. It is a 12-gauge and has a modified barrel. I figure it needs to be cleaned real good and get lubed after sitting for so long. There are no cracks in the wood. It has a Pachmayr recoil pad (aftermarket, I assume??? Mr. Edwards wasn't a big man, so maybe he needed something to help with the recoil. I really don't know).
I have researched and seen prices all over the place for these. If it was mine I'd price it and never look back, but Mrs. Edwards has trusted me to sell it and get her some money, so I can't just lowball it to get rid of it. And I am not taking a single red penny from the sale. I am going to start right smack in the middle of prices I have found online. I am looking for $300 for the shotgun; I'll pay the insured shipping from an individual to your FFL. Thanks for looking at my ad. Please check out the next ad as soon as this one sells. I have 3 or 4 more to list. Mike
