I often take pics of my fire pit and this one came out a few days ago, it looks like an evil Llama :)

Last summer I bought a cheap portable fire pit. The wire screen began burning/bending/disappeared after about a dozen times. Listening to music, reading in the twilight or snacking made for perfectly great evenings...EDIT: Aha, I found the pic of my firepit...

Nice fire pit. Is it an outdoor thing? It's tall. What does the rest of it look like?
It's outdoors sitting on the far corner of my patio and is 42" tall by 32" across on the inside, it's pretty tall to protect the fire from the wind which helps force the smoke up and over us whilst sitting in armchairs. The screen on top is used for pre-heating wood and making pizza on :) The stones are held only by gravity and have been there for 15 years.

Kir, the grate is an iron fireplace grate from Ebay and they last me between 7 and 8 years this one is my second and I'm almost ready for a replacement. Not too bad as I do not cover it and it gets really wet from all of our rain. I can remove the grate and put my smoker inside to protect it from the wind and keep it hot.

It's a real rube Goldberg but it works!

Thanks for the pictures. I've always wanted an outdoor wood fired pizza/bread oven. Unfortunately without spending a lot on major landscaping we don't have the room.

We compromised and have a round 48" fire pit from alone Star Grillz. It's got a swivel and removable cooking grate on top. So it doubles as a wood fired grill.

But your fire pit looks very nice. I can see it being very nice at night with a glass of wine.

Thanks!

Are the stones natural or faux stone of some kind or other. That's an excellent looking fire surround!

That's an excellent looking fire surround! Are the stones natural or a faux- stone product of some kind?

Good question and one that I've wondered about and actually, I can't tell. I'm pretty certain they're made of shellrock or some such material, but whether they were cut from a slab or manufactured / molded from shellrock I can't say for sure but the aggregate doesn't appear to be held together by any man made materials. They're holding up well and wearing / weathering just like native shellrock structures I've seen.

I got them at either Lowes or Home Depot and it took over 110 of them to assemble.

What a great topic and such wonderful pits that y'all have.
I dearly love mine although it is not fancy by any stretch. Just a relaxing spot down near the barn, where I can sit back, smoke my pipe and reflect on things. Love campfires and fire pits......View attachment 38902
"A relaxing spot" is all anyone needs. Whether it's a hole in the ground with creek stones around it or something more elaborate the beer, wine, coffee, tea or whatever you have tastes just a little bit better with a fire going.
