After almost three weeks to the day after I purchased a P94 (.40) online, I finally was able to pick it up today. Long story short, for some reason it took 8 days for my payment to go from MO to PA (one day was a holiday though). Then it took the seller almost a week to ship it. Lastly, the shop I used for my transfer is only open Wed - Sat, so the package couldn't be delivered Tues, when it arrived. A Wed. snowstorm kept the doors closed on the 2nd delivery attempt. So it finally arrived Thursday, but I didn't have time to get it after work, so Friday was the magic day.

I was a little disappointed to see that someone had tried to scrape something into the slide. But otherwise, it seems to be in solid shape. I got a great deal on it. I'll post some pics later this weekend. Glad to finally be an official Ruger owner. Can't wait to test it out at the range.

Congrats! I had mine at the range today. Put 200 rds of WWB and Blazer Brass through it and still no problems (I'm somewhere between 1000 and 1500 rds in it now) even one round of BB that the bullet had no taper at all and was completely flat nosed.

I still need to move the rear sight over a bit for lefty shooting but my aim is getting much better and I dont get low shots from anticipating the kick and pulling it nearly as often.

*sigh* Took the P94 out to the range today to get some action. Five rounds in, I get an FTE. I had one of the range guys come and clear it out (yup, still a newbie). Next clip, I got another FTE two rounds in. To make a long story short, in shooting 100 rounds, I got at least 10 FTEs. I was not happy at all. I have four different magazines and tried them all. Same results.

Now since I bought it used, I don't know how well it was taken care of or cleaned. The action seems to be in great shape. I was using Blazer ammo. So I'm going to buy two different types of ammo and take it back out sometime this week. I also stripped it down today and gave it a good cleaning and put some lube on there.

I'll take it out again before I call Ruger. The worker guy initially thought I was limp wristing it, but he watched me shoot a few rounds. My buddy, who's a competition shooter, shot two mags and got two FTEs as well. Hopefully it just needs some TLC and not a trip to Ruger - I just got it.

Good news is, I'm now a certified pro at removing FTE jams. lol

Hopefully it just needed a good cleaning. I've used blazer brass, winchester white box, and pmc all without a problem. Mostly I use blazer brass since its the cheapest. I just picked up some reloads from a local company at the last gun show and will be interested to see how they do. Someone at the show said he bought some from them and about every 5th round was a fail to fire or fte in his xD.

My p944 had fte initially. I called ruger and they sent me a new extractor free of charge. took all of a minute to install and its functioned perfectly now with over 500 rounds through it.

UPDATE: I took my P94 out to the range again this weekend. First I gave the P94 a good, solid cleaning. Also I tried some different ammo. WWB and Remington boxes. I was looking forward to seeing how well it would do.

The first magazine was free and clear of any FTE. It was my OEM Ruger mag. I popped in the 2nd, a ProMag, and received an FTE on the 3rd and 8th shots. I proceeded to load and fire out of all four of my magazines (Ruger and ProMags) and sadly enough, I began going back to the FTEs every 4 or 5 rounds on all four.

So I finally called Ruger customer service today. They're sending me an extractor at no charge. Hopefully that'll solve the problem. All the posts I've been reading are right, they're extremely hassle-free. I could've shipped it in, but figured this method is faster and it'll give me experience replacing an extractor.

I run only factory Ruger mags and have never had aproblem. I don't care for pro mags in any of my firearms. I use factory mags in everything I own other than my AR's and AK's. Ammo can be an issue as noted. You'll like the P94, I think it one of the smoothest shooting P-Series Pistols in 9MM or 40 S&W.

Another update:

I finally got my extractor after waiting several weeks due to Ruger being backed up. I found it surprisingly easy to replace. Went ahead and gave my P94 a good thorough cleaning while I was at it. Now it's time to cross my fingers.

Unfortunately I won't get to take it to the range until NEXT weekend. I have a new Bersa Thunder .380, but am waiting on my range ammo to arrive in the mail (gets here Tuesday). So I might as well wait and kill two birds with one stone. But for now, the P94 is nice and pretty. The new extractor is waiting to be tested. Hopefully it solves the problem. If not, I'll probably have to send it in to Ruger and who knows how long that'll take w/ the crazy rush.

Good luck Phenom I hope your problem is solved. My P944 has only malfunctioned once in 1500+ rounds. That was a failure to eject with remington umc ammo(bad cartridge I'm sure). Once you get it right you shouldn't have any more problems for a long time.

I've been thinking of getting a p94. Hope your gun is cured. Look forward to future updates.
If you get one, get a P944. It may cost a little more but it has some nice updates. P94 is a good gun, P944 just a touch better.

UPDATE:

OK, so my extractor finally arrived after five or six weeks (during which time I bought a Bersa .380 to keep me shooting happy....until I realized the great .380 ammo drought. lol) This was my first time replacing a part on my firearm, so I was a little nervous. However, once I saw the extractor, I figured the job wouldn't be too hard. And it wasn't. Took just a few minutes to pull out the old extractor and insert the new one. After examining the old one, I really couldn't see why it would have been the problem.

I waited an extra week before heading to the range since I was waiting on .380 ammo in the mail. Finally took it out today and here are the results. 125 rounds fired. Only 1 FTE. And I'm pretty sure the FTE was due to a poor grip. I recently jammed my thumb and wasn't able to grip very well. However, all my magazines, both factory and ProMag, fired flawlessly (minus the one). I used WWB and Blazer Brass. Before replacing the extractor, both FTE'd 1-2 times per magazine.

So the problem is solved. I'm very excited to have a fully functional P94 now. Thanks to all those who gave advice and thanks to Ruger for sending the part free of charge. It took a while to arrive, but I know the whole industry is bananas right now, so no complaints from me - especially since I wasn't the original purchaser of the firearm.

Now I just have to work on my aim. I was actually MUCH more accurate BEFORE I replace the extractor, but I'm pretty sure that has to do with my injured thumb and the long layoff in between sessions. Thanks again to all and happy shooting.

(On a side note, my .380 (brand new) also fired flawlessly and smooth as butter. Great day at the range.)

I just got my P944 and had a bunch of FTE's with various 165 and 180gr ammo including Winchester Ranger Talon 165 gr which is some of the best you can buy if you can even get it since it isn't normally sold to civilians. Hoping it's just a break in issue and don't have the same extractor problems Phenom had. I doubt highly that it was limpwristing even though the problem happened mainly when I was double tapping because I was shooting my Glock 17 even more rapidly and didn't experience any FTE's with it. In fact I never had a stovepipe before until today with the Ruger. I may have put too much grease on the rails but doubt that too. Other than the FTE's though I had a great time shooting my P944 and found it to be very accurate especially when double tapping. Got a good return on the sight and could keep the shots close to each other when rapid firing even with the 180 gr.

+1 on the P94's. I have not had any issues with the 9MM or 40 that I own. I will not use Promags, period. Factory or MecGar mags are the way to go. I think that someone mentioned in another thread that they might make good door stops.
