Well, I went out for some powder and balls yesterday and all I could find was an ancient pound of Pyrodex P along with some equally ancient wads and round balls (interestingly enough, about 94 of each...). Along with some new Winchester caps, I had to pay over $250 for the lot. Well, at least it came with a nice type 5 ROA :D

Another interesting note is that only about half of the wads and balls made it home...

PS. Anyone more knowledgeable than me on the ROA (there are many on this forum), please let me know if those are the appropriate grips, I don't know when they moved away from black inserts, the gun is mid 1975 production. Thanks.

$250 is a great deal if rust/pit free. As far as I know the ROA always came with walnut, rosewood, or faux ivory grips. Your vintage should come with walnut grips if memory serves me right.

The "Black Eagles" were gone from production prior to the Production of the Old Army. Shiny, "chrome" eagles would be correct with black escutcheons and a blued grip screw.

You had me going there for a moment..... :D

Flatgate, If the gun was made in 1975 then I think the grip screw and escutcheons would probably be stainless steel. And I think the Shiny chrome eagles had also been changed to the dull silver eagles by then, but I'm not sure. Chet15 should know.

Sorry, I meant to say ferrules, weren't they blued/black when the ROAs first came out?

As for condition, the blue finish overall is great with no rust or spotting. It was a real gamble though, it was coated in tar and nicotine when I picked it up, which I figure preserved the finish. The chambers had a light bit of corrosion in the rear in the curved part, that cleaned up well though. Definately a shooter though.

Thanks again.

Street, yessir, I believe you are correct.

Duh, stainless guns showed up in '74, didn't they...

Thanks for the reminder!

Some new pics. Yep, I'm not going to be accused of being a stickler for details, but I've got all the original parts and I just think anything with three screws should have black eagles on 'em.

Both my brassies have "squashed chicken" medallions.

Nice! Those go well with the brass. I do have some of those on a late OM Super. Just like seeing the black, a product of growing up with my dad's.
