Even more of a black sheep in my own family

Help Support Ruger Forum:

You might be surprised to find that many who voted for Kamala do not believe that Biden was a terrible President, while they likely accept that he was failing mentally at the end and needed to be replaced. They truly do not think the economy was bad, and that the inflation was the fault of Trump during his first administration. They also believe that Biden and the Democrats are just good, caring people for wanting to help all of those poor illegals who want to come to the U.S. and live off the U.S. taxpayers. They will also tell you endlessly that Trump is a "convicted felon" and that he raped dozens of women, and was a terrible business man, etc, etc. It is scary and discouraging sometimes to realize that this is reality for millions of Americans.

There is a range of political beliefs in my family, mostly conservative. That said, we don't allow politics to shred our love and respect for one another. We know where each stands, vote our beliefs, and leave politics out of our relationships. By doing that we are able to have large family gatherings and enjoy each others company.

That's always the way it had been in my family, until this past election. I think it was my far Left daughter who put the idea into her Mom's head that by not supporting Kamala Harris I was "betraying" the females in my family, as if a vote for Trump was a vote to put women back to 150 years ago, with no vote, no right to own property, let alone the right to practice birth control, etc. I think that is what has made things change, along with the relentless major media bashing of Trump as if he really were Hitler reincarnated. I guess if you truly believe Trump is Hitler, then I can see how you might be more than resentful of those that support him.

Tomorrow I am leaving for about a week to visit my siblings back in the NYC area, and then I plan to stop and visit the Air Force Museum in Dayton, OH for a day or two. That museum is a place I have been wanting to visit for a few years now, so this seems a good time. And with my brother being 86, I worry about taking too long between visits since none of us know what tomorrow will bring. I am hoping that a week or ten days away from my wife will be good for both of us. I've asked her to consider marriage counseling since clearly these issues are not getting resolved by any conversation between the two of us. As I write this I just find myself saddened and incredulous that after almost 59 years together this nonsense is what is driving us apart.

I'm glad I have this forum as a place that I can vent.

I wish you all the luck in the world vito. You contribute much to this forum and your posts are always insightful. Sadly what you are going through is happening to a lot of people.

A close friend of mine was accused of domestic violence and harassment by his hopefully soon to be ex wife and a big part of her reasoning is that she didn't agree with him voting for President Trump. She went as far as getting an order of protection against him and his pistol permit has been suspended because of it.

TDS is a real thing and in this case a nightmare...

Sorry about your plight. I think it is shsred by many. It is easy to see how siblings fought on opposite sides during the civil war. I have siblings on the far left and on the far right. Both sides share their perspectives with me hoping to drag me into it. My wife and I donated to Trump's campaign and are big supporters; but we don't share that with many and don't talk politics in mixed company.
