Even more of a black sheep in my own family

Yesterday I called one of my adult sons that I had not spoken to in awhile. In the course of the conversation in which we were enjoying talking about guns, motorcycles and one of my grandson's proficiency in soccer, I mentioned that his Mom, my wife of almost 59 years, has been in a funk since Trump was elected. This son then informed me that my wife has shared, and apparently all but one of my five grown children have agreed with her, that they are "alarmed" at how I had changed. He said that the whole family knows that I am politically Conservative, but they cannot wrap their minds around the fact that I supported Donald Trump and that this is what is making them all be a bit standoffish with me, even my own wife.

It became very clear that this son, a former police officer and well educated (he had worked as a computer forensic investigator for a State attorney general's office) has swallowed the Leftis Kool-Aid hook, line and sinker. He believes that there is no doubt that Trump has raped dozens of women, that he is a supporter of Nazi's (because he had some guy named Fuentes as a guest at Mara Lago as well as his association with Elon Musk), that Hegseth is a serial woman abuser, and on and on. Trying to talk rationally with him went nowhere. He also is convinced that if they lived in Texas or some other state that is restricting abortions, and if his wife miscarried, that because of Donald Trump she would be forced to flee the state for medical care or would be left to die. It was the most discouraging and dispiriting conversation I have ever had with one of my one children. Even my crazy oldest daughter, who was one of those people wearing a vagina hat a few years back, and who never misses a march or demonstration in favor of gun control, no conversation was ever so depressing.

In truth I have not changed. I have voted for Conservatives ever since I voted for Richard Nixon in 1972, and all of my family knows this. I have not changed. Trying to tell my son that when we vote we are not picking a best friend, or someone we want to invite to our home for dinner, but who we think will best serve the needs and well being of our nation. I told him that personally there are aspects of Trump's personality that I find less than admirable, but that I do not believe for a second that he is a serial rapist (no matter what CNN or MSNBC might have said) and that without a doubt I know that the country is far better off with Trump as President than if Harris had won. Oddly he sort of agreed with me, but at the same time still believes that it is unbelievable to him (and apparently to much of my immediate family) that I voted for Donald Trump.

I love my family, but I absolutely will not act as if I agree with them on their emotion driver Leftist worldview. I'm not sure where this will all go to. In the almost 59 years of our marriage this present time seems like the most with potential for catastrophe. Time will tell.

I feel for you Vito but, you got to be you!
My daughter is mainly conservative until it comes to abortion.
It's come to the point that we know how one another feel, and neither of us talk about it.

I can't imagine how hard it is for you with your family like that.

However,, be patient,, sit back,, & let the results of the things President Trump is doing take effect. While it most likely won't change their minds,, you can always counter with facts of the results if an argument arises.
Show them the video of the Haitian illegal criminal cursing Trump, praising Biden & Hussain, saying he'll return. Hard to argue facts. Point to the fact that the border crossings have almost completely stopped since he took office.

It may not make a difference to them,, but if President Trump gets results,, then it'll be hard to ignore.

We have been, and are being sold fear and loathing. The sales force is being paid on commission as far as I can tell, it's the only thing that makes sense to me.
I tell my mother he's not the king, there are 2 other branches that have their opinion, and are empowered to say no.

Vito it's not only family. My parents who were on the other side of the aisle and we just didn't speak politics. At my last job a good friend was so frothing at the mouth against republicans I got so tired of it the last time we spoke I told him to lose my phone number.

Sorry for your issues. Not too many families are all together on politics. Most people I know don't push it if not.

Its never been a real issue before in my family. Without a doubt several of my children, and likely my wife voted for Joe Biden, and for Hilary before that, but politics was not part of our family dynamic. Now it has become so. The issue that seems to have blown this out of proportion is abortion. I have been accused of "betraying" the female members of my family by voting for Trump, with them saying that Trump will "take away women's rights". All of the other issues that differentiate the Left from the Right could be dealt with in the family, but this time, this issue has created this deep rift. The ironic part is that I am not really a fierce opponent of abortion, although I believe it needs to be restricted to the early months of the pregnancy, and I adhor the concept, I recognize that about half our country demands having it. To my kids, the ending of the Roe v. Wade decision is their biggest gripe against Trump, and I guess against me for supporting him.

Many extreme liberals suffer from some sort of mental illness. Remember that most insane asylums and mental wards were closed back in the 1970's and 80's.
Now they live among us.
Now, don't take me wrong. I'm not saying that your family suffers from mental illness, but the people who control information seem to be. It's hard to resist the echo chamber when your surrounded by leftist ideology.
It seems that it's the older folks that are conservative. Younger generations have already been indoctrinated to some degree into leftist ideology.

^^^It has always been that way. Younger people tend to be more liberal. As they grow and experience more of life, their outlook tends to change and they become more conservative, No mystery about that, I went through it myself. Mental illness does not enter the picture.

Humans who abort children are inhuman and they likely care more about the rights of animals and murderers than those of aborted children.

It's rare that an animal abandons their offspring but the acceptance of infanticide by humans is an abomination because abortion is no more than a toned down less offensive more palatable word for infanticide regardless whether it's post birth or during a trimester.

Quote from Wiki...

Infanticide is the intentional killing of infants or offspring, often to dispose of unwanted children

Quote off.

So Women have rights to dispose of unwanted children? But many of these who demand rights to kill their children champion against the death penalty for murderers?

Give me a break.

Rant off.

Well, as far as I know, Trump didn't end Roe vs Wade, the Supreme Court did. If they can't make that differentiation, then I seriously doubt you will be able to reason with them. People get all upset about things that they can do not much about. As of now, abortion is a state's rights issue, not federal. Encourage them to influence their state regarding abortion. I struggle with abortion as well, but I do believe it is a state issue, not federal. Truly, I believe it is a moral issue, not a legal one, and government should butt out of it entirely.

I wish I could be of some help in some way, I feel for you.

I can fully understand the family dynamic about politics and especially TDS. My wife's sister and her husband are so far left that I am surprised that they don't have a hammer and sickle flag.

They have a 10 year old son who is absolutely terrified of President Trump. They have him believing that he is evil incarnate and that President Trump is going to destroy the world.

I also just found out that my brother in law may be losing his job as a grant writer. I never knew exactly what he was writing grants for but now it comes out that he is involved in securing funding for illegal aliens and shielding them from justice.

🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 for us and the USA and they can go 💩 in their hats!!!

Thirty years ago I had a friend from work who was a liberal but we didn't let that get in the way of other things that we had in common. He moved back to the left coast and we stayed in touch via email.

He used to send me jokes about conservatives and I'd usually laugh because good jokes contain a kernel of truth. One day I sent him a couple jokes about liberals.

I was sent a rant about how I had insulted him, his family, and most of his friends. I asked why it was ok for him to send me jokes about conservatives. He replied that conservatives were jokes and idiots.

My response was, "Dealing with you is like dealing with a woman. I have to weigh every word lest I offend you. Have a good life." I never heard from him again.

I find that liberals are quick to take offense but never mind offending you.
