Hawkeye #28, I agree with you, it would have been nice if Ruger would have done that. But since the frame of both guns were stamped, "RUGER .357 CAL. BLACKHAWK" on both the Flattops and Raised rib models, and the Cat. numbers were the same on both models BKH-34 and BKH-36. As far as Ruger was concerned, this was just an improvement to their Blackhawk. And going back to serial number #1 would cause all kinds of problems when someone ordered a part, such as a rear sight, and gave a model number BKH-34, Blackhawk, and serial number of , say 15000. Would this be a Flattop or a raised rib model. Not everyone knows the difference, so Ruger would not know which rear sight to send.
What Ruger should have done was to have given it a different Mod. number, and started at serial number "1". But as you know Bill Ruger didn't really care about collectors so he could care less about making it easy on us, knowing the change from the Flattop to the Raised Rib model.
