Here where I live and travel the most, both IL and MO have strict “move over” laws for when any first responder type is on the road with emergency lights activated. Penalties for violations are particularly severe.

Back when I drove the big red trucks most folks would yield to us. There were always a few who were either in their own world or just self entitled anal orifices.

The only thing I ever hit was a sky cop pickup that blew threw a stop on the wrong side of the road making a tight right hand turn. and right into the front of my approaching pumper. No one was hurt but I ended up ontop of the hood with the pickup stuck underneath me. I was a bit shook but an older NCO said screw him (or words to that effect) get the pump going. Spent the entire time it took to put out the fire with the sky cop screaming I had to get off his truck before his NCOIC got there.

On a more serious note one of the guys T boned a country squire wagon that blew through a stop sign. Kid mush have been bouncing around like ping pong balls based on their injuries. The moother driving had only a few bruises and scrapes. Took months before we could coax him back into the driver seat.

Jeepnik, I watched a texting kid step in front of a fire engine that had the bell, horn, lights and siren all going. I could hear the truck coming for 4 blocks and was on the loading dock of the Powerhouse seeing where it was headed. The stupid kid looked up at driver and continued texting as he walked slowly in front of the truck. Never underestimate the stupidity of some people.

A few years ago I ws at an aerospace facility checking in. The security guard wanted me to look at a video. One of the engineers was waling along onhis cellphone. Walked right into a flatbed electric cart and pitched forward. The security guard looks and me and says, "the real walking dead".

I'd love to have seen that accident report. Root cause analysis, stupidity.

Here and Iowa and Minnesota as well. A lot of the reason for that law is people running into snow plows......
Here, unfortunately, it's from people running into leo's or others stopped for some problem.
