Double S proof type 1 .357 flattop

Dunno how common this is or even how interesting, but here is a flattop with two "S" proofmarks on the cylinder. I've never noticed a double proof marking before.

Maybe I could move the extra "S" to the frame... :mrgreen:

You WISH you could move one of the S's to the frame!
Darn it,,, now I'm gonna have to start looking at all of my guns to see if I have any like that.

Perhaps it was back at the Factory for some maintenance and someone decided a Proof Test was in order???

There is a few scenarios that could apply there. I am looking at a .357 6.5 from 1968 with the S proof overstamped a second time, only they missed lining the stamp up by 2-3mm or about .125". Looks sorta like a two-headed snake. Chief aka Maxx Load

it "bounced"....did it on the bench top instead of a solid block or jig, OR , he's OLD and "forgot"...best bet is ,went back to 'QC"??? and reproofed.....if only they could 'talk'........ :roll:
