Do you value your dog's life over that of a total stranger?

I won't wait that long or come close to giving ANY DOG or ANY ONE's dog an even break on my own property. Bark or growl and act agresive and you are getting the most lethal thing I have in my hands.

I won't put up with that out of MY DOG and I LIKE HIM. I don't give a flip about any one else's dog. You should have kept it at home.

What a guy! So when your dog barks you shoot him. Wow!

The question is a "stranger". A stranger you would not know if he is an evil, child molester or a rapist, or serial killer - he is a stranger. But even so I personally would shoot the dog. Why?? because most dog owners are too LAZY to train or have the dog trained. Therefore, the dog goes buy on mostly instinct, and will attack when he's not supposed to.
i have been bitten 4 times. once as a child walked into neighbors garage where their cocker spaniel was. other times trying to break up dog fights. i don't blame the dogs. they do as you say act on instinct their bites are sometimes how they discipline or control their own kind . there are dogs that need training to respect humans and other animals. they need boundaries

i'm still waiting on 411 i'm only interested in your stash if it's red crayons. don,t want to meet your pit bull. is it related to that jack bull?
I have a Jack Russel that thinks she's a pit bull. There's nothing she won't attack if she feels we're being threatened, and she is held in check by our Siberian husky, who simply puts her big ol' paw on top of the Jack Russell, to keep her out of trouble. It's really quite hilarious to watch. The Jack Russell gets so pissed at her.

good to know some one has some sense in your house

This statement tends to upset me. Between my wife and I we have enough experience with dogs, including American Pit Bull Terriers. In fact one is snoring on my couch right now, and our previous dog was a APBT that my Wife rescued
I will take a little bit of exception to the above statement. I'm a dog lover, and have had dogs of all breeds all of my adult life, but haven't had a pit bull, although my son and DIL have one. I've only been attacked by a dog twice in my life, and both of them were pit bulls. In both cases I was just visiting the home and interacting peacefully with the occupants, not rough-housing or making any kind of aggressive move, and was attacked from behind, once on the leg while standing still, and the second time on the arm while sitting and chatting. Both times the wounds were pretty bloody, but didn't quite require medical attention.
And in both cases the dog was just a family pet, had never been in a fight, and wasn't adopted from an abusive home.
You can't find a list of dog attacks by breed anywhere that doesn't have the pit bull all by itself at the top. And a high percentage of the dogs were "just the sweetest family pet and had never shown any aggression until they ate the baby" or words to that effect. The reason that Pit Bulls have always been used as fighting dogs is because they are so capable of doing that, both physically and by temperament. While I still consider myself a lover of man's best friend, I'm not one to ignore the data. And I certainly am not "an idiot educated by the media". Not a huge fan of the shih tzu either but for different reasons.

One of the best parts of my job as a chimney sweep is going to people's houses and meeting their dogs... I tell folks this often. Over the years on very rare occasions I've had problems but like I say very rare... at least the people I serve if they have an aggressive or questionable dog they put it away while I'm there.

Wife and I managed her families mountain house for over 3 decades... summer vacation place with other houses on the same private road 2-500 yards a part. One of the reasons we sold the place was a woman and her 2nd husband would spend most of the summer up there and he got strange.... got in a fist fight with another neighbor after he broke down coming back from the grocery store and the neighbor drove him home and then his wallet was missing... wife found it in one of the grocery bags. But the real issue was we had friends we would let go up there with their dogs and they would walk them and not on a leash... understand no other folks around and the other folks did not have dogs... this guy decided he did not like them and their dogs, which would bark if someone came up and so he would stand on the upper road and shoot his pistol in the air. (These friends or left wing anti gun folks from Germany) Bottom line is our dogs have always run free up there and there was never a problem and I told my wife if he shot one of our dogs he was not coming off that mountain.

There is a big difference between a APBT and what most people think of when they hear "Pit Bull". Which is normally a mixed breed. Lists? Go to your local ACO and ask for bite reports.

Gun lovers protect all guns. We should have fully automatics. We should have magazines of any capacity right? We should have any gun we want right? So called dog lovers say we shouldn't have certain dogs.....a bit hypocritical don't you think?

Anti "Pit Bull" people are no different than anti gun people. Read a anti "Pit Bull" article and substitute "Gun" for "Pit Bull".....same rant.

Absolutely not hypocritical. First off, I never said that nobody should have a pit bull, just that I don't want one, and don't trust them. And that is based on real life experiences and a study of all the data I could find from all sources. Even though my son has a pit bull, that never stops me from going there and I pet their Pit Bull Jazmine just as much as I pet their Great Dane Loki. But I still don't quite trust her as much as other dogs around my grandkids. I know that any dog has the potential to cause harm to a child, but, again, I don't ignore the data. I also know that 95% of Pit Bulls never harm anyone, but 99% of all other dogs never harm anyone either.

And the correlation to anti-gun people isn't even close to relevant. The anti-gun folks would like to see us fully disarmed, not just certain types of guns, although they're smart enough to target those that they think they might get away with. Personally, I don't ever want a Sccy 9mm either, but that is because I shot one once and it suuuuuuuucked! Because I don't want that, in your mind, that makes me anti-gun? If you want a Sccy, go ahead, I could care less about that, just like I could care less that you have a Pit Bull. But if you bring it by my house, I'll feed and water it, probably pet it even, just won't turn my back on it.

No anger whatsoever, but I do enjoy a good debate, as long as everyone can shake hands and depart with a smile afterward. I have no intention of changing anyone's mind about anything, but I hope we can at least make each other think about the other's stance on things. My favorite expression is "I've never learned a damn thing from someone who agrees with me".
