Do you value your dog's life over that of a total stranger?

Most of us believe that life is supremely valuable and likely believe that a human life is more valuable than an animal. But does that thinking apply if the human life is a total stranger, and the animal life involved is a beloved pet. I certainly hope that I am never in the situation where I was able to save either my dog or a stranger, but I think that I would choose my dog, who means more to me than most anything. Now maybe if the stranger was an innocent child, I would choose the child, but I doubt that I would do that for any adult (and if the adult in question were wearing an Obama or Biden t-shirt then it would be even less of conflict to choose my little dog).. Its a broiling hot afternoon, I'm just sitting at the computer rather than going outside (even to take a ride on my motorcycle) and I have time to wonder about things like this.

It's a dog. No different than a cow or squirrel in my eyes.

I am opposed to the enslavement of animals to assuage feelings of loneliness. However, I am not opposed to the enslavement of animals to provide cheeseburgers.

Well, there is a security aspect as well. Nobody is going to get the drop on me in my house.

Curious as to why you think your beloved dog would try to kill a stranger? Any pet I have had would never attack a person unless said person was trying to harm a member of the family. And if that is the case, it would be deserved.
I did not read where Vito said that there was any interaction between his dog and a human. I read it as both needing saving at the same time but, you could only save one.

It would have to be someone on the order of Adolph Hitler or Josef Stalin for me to value a pet over a human being.

Might as well be asking would you save your teddy bear before saving a human being.
I never said 'pet'..... and I would have to think about the teddie bear.

Guess my perception was imperfect 🤷‍♂️

So, I ask "save from what"?

Rad is a belgian malonois, he is 10 and trained. not to be an attack dog but to respect his "caretakers" and to allow us to decide threat level. he is trained to rely on our judgement in relation to his threat assessment. if he was ever a threat or bit someone i would not hesitate to put him down. that being said if someone is up to no good ,then poor decisions , made by stupid people who haven't thought of consequences i'll let the dog decide.
