I have mentioned on this board that I have been waiting for a new Springfield Armory Mil-Spec 1911 that I have on order. I use to own a Colt Gold Cup 70 Series quite a few years back and that was my one and only venture into the actual ownership of a 1911.

Being in the Army at the time I had more than the normal exposure to these guns and in a way they became boring to me, so when I sold it I didn't think I would miss it. My Dad had carried a 1911 as a detective in Chicago in the 50's and 60's which was very odd, at the time, most cops, even detectives carried the .38 Special. That may have come in to play on my want of a 1911.

While I was waiting on my new Mil-Spec I came across a used and somewhat abused one at my favorite LGS, so I bought it, Rev knows the whole history of this. That gun is a project and is being beat, peened, ground and polished in my basement at this time, this will take awhile.

Well my favorite LGS got in a new SA 1911A1 Loaded a couple of days ago, yeah, I bought it. It hasn't been cleaned or shot yet but here are some pics of the new one.

So do I have 1911 fever?

God, I hope not!

Except for those forward grippy-grooves, you could strip all the boy racer go-fast parts off that thing, replace them with GI-type parts and have a nice looking blaster there.

Yeah, I hate them too, but it's what differentiates Loaded and above models from the GI's and MilSpecs. On a Springfield 1911 you just gotta live with em, unfortunately.

That's why I had ordered a fairly plain jane Mil-Spec, Snake.

This one does have some other work done to it though, a tightened slide being the main thing, it will be a great deal if it shoots as well as it feels. It is one tight mother.

You're still buying the MilSpec right? Seems the only proper thing to do...you ordered it and all.

Yeah, you've got a problem. I think I do too. I've had a MilSpec for a while, been gathering up some parts for it.

Just bought this a month ago.

And just found out a guy at work has a Springfield Match that he bought in the 80s and has hardly ever shot it and he doesn't know it yet but he wants to trade it for something...

Well seeing that I bought these two guns from this same LGS in three weeks after having the Mil-Spec on order for about 3 months, I would think I would not be held for the Mil-Spec. I don't think you have a clue how much I spend there.

They told me I was off the hook for the new Mil-Spec all along if I found one somewhere else.

I am a great customer and a range member there. They turn over guns at a very high rate , although, I did tell the owner "call me if it was a real sweet one". :D

Easy there. Guess I should have included a few more :D   Why stop at 2? And since you did order it.... :D :D Any time you buy 2 guns in a month it's a great month. 3 would be stellar. A project, a Loaded, and a MilSpec...nice.

Cheesewiz where do you shoot, if you don't mind me asking. I'm in Aurora and getting tired of the same old range.

I shoot at a lot of places that are indoors including JR's in Aurora, is that where you shoot? That's actually a pretty nice range, there is also Megasports on 30, north of 55, that range is also nice and not that far south of you. I mostly shoot at Midwest in Lyons which would be a haul for you and although I like it for it's convenience, we do call it the "dungeon" for a reason, it could have been updated a long time ago and then again a couple of years back. :D :D

It gets some real good shooters in there and is a pretty friendly place, not too many of the weekend commandos I see at some of the other local ranges. I like the people at Midwest alot and I get treated very well there.

Thanks Anthony, my build gun was going to be inspired by a Ed Brown SF, I think it's a nice looking and handling gun ( I never shot one ) but after Snake's response, I think I'll get it gold plated and put fender skirts on it    .

Jr's is right down the street from me, and i used to go to Mega, untill they raised their prices so high I don't want to give them my business anymore, I might give the one in Lyons a try, I'm in Summit for work a few times a month. Thanks
