Yes, I could not remember the name of the movie but knew the one you were referring too... wasn't it the one with John Huston leading his men pulling that big boat?
Dern, now I'm going to have to go back and actually re-read the Hugh Glass story......

Okay, I have to ask this question about both these type rifles as well as someothers shown in sniper movies. You almost always see the sniper putting the rifle together just before taking the shot... this includes putting the scope on the rifle.... are these sniper rifles and scopes so well tuned that you can take the scope off and on and they will still be accurate to less than a minute?

On my competition Smallbore rifles, I never transported with the scope or iron sights on the rifle. I carried the rifles in aluminum cases mostly. The scope in its padded box, sights in a box. For fear or damaging scope or sights. before the match the rifle was assembled. The adjustments to get them shooting X's again was slight and likely due to range conditions, ie light, wind at the range on that time and date. Hunting rifles, if rings are not changed when removing the scope on off rifle they are back on point without problems. Mounting a scope on a rail is easiest to remove and replace without changes. I have several rifles with Tally rings now. Those are the type which the rings are also the base. So, the scope is removed from the rings 1st to remove base( lower part of ring) from rifle. I fire test those when the scope is off and back on. They are off and need minor adjustment.

My HK91A2 rifle (.308) has the clever HK claw-mount for mounting scopes. I can take it off and put it back on and be within 1" at 100 yards. However, I just leave it on all the time.

Taking scope off and maintaining a zero.
Just back from the range after remounting the scope onto the bases. Rifle, Weatherby vanguard .243, scope Leupold 3x9, rings and mount Leupold. Rings have the windage adjustment screws which were removed and reinstalled.
Rifle barrel and action was removed from the stock and reinstalled. I checked scope with bore sighting tool. And had to adjust windage about 8 inch's and it was 1 inch low.
Actual range hits at 100 yds. I had to add another 1/2 inch right adjustment to center the shots and 1 inch up. So close to a full zero before and after but not perfect. I then fired with the suppressor and needed another 6 inch up to recenter.
