Took these photos in 2007 under poor lighting conditions at the Smithsonian's NATIONAL MUSEUM of the AMERICAN INDIAN on the Mall in Washington, D.C. The guns are archived as veteran instruments of the Old West.

If anyone here saw this exhibit and can shed light on any of the firearms, please do so. I remain curious about the translucent grips on the 4-3/4" Peacemakers. They appear to be one-piece; I could not tell whether one or both may have been two-piece, with a blind hole in the right scale. Might grip material be large clam shell or possibly tortoise shell? The steer or bull has inset eyes which appear to be turquoise.
