I just acquired a CZ 527 Carbine in 7.62x39, Grab A Gun has them for very good price.

Couple of initial thoughts, nice wood grain and kind of a gray color. Single set trigger that breaks like a glass rod, no creep.

Couple of issues with GAG,

1) their link to said gun showed a rifle without iron sights
2) ad stated rifle was designed to be used with optics

Gun arrived with sights and no rings. GAG listed the gun as a "Rustic" carbine, but that was discontinued a few years ago.

I emailed GAG about the lack of rings, will see what happens. But I am keeping this rifle, going to the local indoor range later to pop a few primers at 25 yards.

I have some PPU and some Brown Bear soft point ammo headed this way. CZ recommends European ammo due to chamber specs, best results with .311 projectiles. May try some Hornady steel case in the future, but today just Wolf steel case.

Gonna top this little dude with a Trijicon Accupoint 3x9x40 green dot.

Sounds like a nice piece. Do you reload? I bet it would do great with lead bullets.
I do reload, mostly for handguns.

Everything I read about these guns is they shoot the cheap steel case stuff so well, it is hard to justify reloading.

But knowing me like I do, I am sure I will end up with a conversion for my Dillon.

I have tried to create an Imgur account to post a picture, this little rifle is just quite the looker.

I had a CZ 527 Carbine that I enjoyed shooting. Very handy, light and accurate. The rifle did favor steel case ammo for reliability when I first got it. Apparently there is a slight dimensional difference between European steel case ammo and U.S. made factory brass case stuff. In mine, when you went to fire a chambered round (brass case stuff), the firing pin strike would push the round forward, resulting in a weak primer strike. I would get failure to fire 10% or the time with some ammo, some just wouldn't fire like Remington ammo. Steel case ammo was 100% reliable.

This was cured when I talked to CZ customer service and they had me send the bolt back to them and they installed a Wolf spring in it. 100% reliable with all ammo after that.

I was able to make a few good hand loads for the rifle including a cast lead bullet (155 grains from a Lee Mold) going 2000 FPS and giving 1.5" accuracy at 100 yards.

Ultimately I sold the rifle when I moved out the the country and started using my guns every day, riding around on ATV's, hiking, etc. The rifle was too nice to carry around like that, so I sold it and now use a well worn Winchester 30/30 and a Ruger 77/357 for everyday hard use.

Is CZ a Ruger owned company or vice versa?

Hi,

As I understand it, CZ is the world's largest small arms mfr. So it's not likely Ruger owns them. Nor is it likely CZ owns Ruger: it"s hard to believe the Czechs would allow the same old excuse for QC Ruger seems to be known for. CZ's QC is pretty darn good.

I had one in .223 for awhile. I don't believe that rings are included, and they do use a proprietary base as well. I purchased a set from Midway that were made by Burris. The only drawback is that due to the angle of the bolt throw, medium-height rings are as low as you can go. They are extremely well made little rifles, with a good reputation for accuracy. Enjoy!

my little brother has one of them and I have shot it on the silhouette range at Whittington. Nice action, wish CZ had a rail for a better scope mounting setup
7.62x39 really drops fast at 300yds. This same gun in 6.5 Grendel is much better performer I bet

Let me be clearer. Why is a CZ topic appearing here?

With all due respect sir, Contender has posted on this sight that all guns are welcome for discussion and that the Ruger forum is not filled with gun snobs.

I posted here because I noticed another non-Ruger thread got moved from the lounge to a Ruger firearm forum to get more traffic.

If one of the Moderators believes this should be in the lounge, please relocate this thread

I do not wish to violate any decorum.

On the deer lease I hunt here in GA a shot over 100 yards is very rare, too many hills and trees.

If I go to LA and sitting on a pipeline is a possibility, I will take my M77 7mm mag.

Wish I had one of these little carbines when I lived in LA and hunting deer with hounds.

CZ does not ship this gun with rings, Grab A Gun's website was incorrect, they did give me a $20 credit. I ordered some Burris rings off eBay for $43 delivered.

Wish I could Imgur to work and post a picture, the little rifle is a cutie.

Ok, just to keep it Ruger related, I am trying to choose between a Ruger Predator in .223 or a CZ527 in the same caliber. I haven't heard any bad things about either one, but I do like blue steel and wood over plastic stocks. Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

Hi,

Dunno if it's important to many owners, but somewhere on the CZ site they used to talk about their .223s being built to CIP standards, which are tougher than SAAMI, and meant you could run any kind of standard .223 or the higher pressure 5.56 ammo, including the cheapo steel cased Russian stuff, in the 527. I dunno if the Predator is like the Savages--".223 ONLY"--or if it can run 5.56, too.

Personal opinion: blue steel deserves wood! Plastic is fine for "big boys' toys" (like most of the ARs I see, or my "it's probably gonna get a soaking" duck gun), but otherwise, nice wood is a good thing.

CZ website says their carbine will "happily eat 5.56".
