My parents passed away a couple of years ago and I inherited an E-go self propelled mower and edger. My dad loved the mower but it had its place. Grass can't be too long or wet. Here in the PNW you HAVE to be able to mow wet grass. Just are not enough dry days that line up with anyone's schedule to make it work. It worked for him because he was retired and they didn't go anywhere.
I tried using it for a year at my place. If you didn't let it too long in the summer, it worked well, but out here the grass grows quick so in the damp spring, you have to mow once a week to keep up, by then it was too long for the E-go and it wouldn't pick up the grass, which made it tough the next time around. It just made a mess that I would have to go over with the gas mower to pick the stuff up. Doing a job twice does not sound very efficient to me.
Same issue with the edger. If you kept up on it, it would work OK, but starting from scratch with overgrown sidewalks was worthless. I personally like a tool with a little extra power so when you come upon a tough situation, you can get through it.
I guess in a nut shell, I don't like being limited by the power of my tools, or hindered by the lac of power.
