So as the title implies, this is sort of a Ruger topic. I recently completed a Howa 1500 rifle (with an English walnut stock) chambered in 375 Ruger. I'm only going to shoot cast bullets in it. I bought the stock from Richard's in Sun Valley, CA after purchasing a 1500 Howa barreled action. I have a couple of other rifles based on this action and I really like them. One is custom cherry-stocked S&W 1500 in 30 06 (that's on the Howa action, too), and the other is a 300 Weatherby Vanguard with the Tupperware stock (it is one of the most accurate rifles I've ever owned). Anyway, here are a few photos during the build...
Glass bedded, of course...
And then a little bit of sanding and a few coats of Tru-Oil...
I'm going to use this rifle for hog hunting, and because the distances are typically well under 100 yards, I wanted to use a straight 4X scope. A local shop had a used Weatherby scope (those old Weatherby scopes are crystal clear) and when the proprietor told me he wanted $25 for it, I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough.
I'm using a 275 grain cast bullet (lubed and gas-checked they weigh 275 grains), and SR 4759 powder...
On the first outing, I was more than pleased with the rifle's performance. It only took a quick look through the bore to get the scope within a couple of inches of zero, and then I shot these groups...
Recoil was stout but not punishing. I really enjoyed shooting it. I've only tried the one load so far; more load development will follow. I like how this came together.
