Currency? Anyone on here collect or know about selling?

Help Support Ruger Forum:

There are many pricing guides available, almost all of them will be out of date by time of printing.

Number of pricing websites for coins and currency as well that track sales on auction sites, etc. GIGO, seems like a decent approach for more common items.

I believe eBay allows you to see closed auctions/items, though it's a bit harder to find than on GunBroker. GIGO here as well, poor descriptions on eBay can cause items to sell for much less than the market would indicate.

Whatcha got?
It is a 20 dollar bill with the serial number 02162004. "birthday note".
Guy on ebay is trying to get 50 bucks for the same thing with serial 02172004.

Maybe I'll list local for 40 and see what happens. 02/16 is Sunday so maybe it will catch someones eye?

Thanks for the replies and take care,

I tried to sell 10 consecutive SN'd $100 bills at Tulsa one time for $1100. I didn't hav any takers 😁😁

Price? Condition and rarity

When it comes to coins and notes, condition is everything. I have over a dozen silver dollars from the late 18's to early 19's era and they are only worth the weight of the actual silver because they aren't pristine. Same for a pile of dimes I have from way back. The good news is that silver is up right now so may just send 'em.

Rarity trumps condition. An uncirculated 1941 Mercury dime will not come close to a VG maybe even a G 1916D Merc. But yes, condition is a big factor.

I searched through tens of thousands of pennies with my grandfather in my youth looking for that mythical 1909 SVDB

Take good pictures of your currency and send to Heritage Auctions.

Yes... condition, rarity, and fitting the buyer's taste or "cool factor" all play into price. Bank notes from my family's home town get my attention, among other factors.

South Dakota National Bank Notes are highly sought after, as are most low population western state small towns.
I once sold one from Gehring Nebraska for $7500. It was in horrible shape, but there were no known survivors of that bank.
Started my Ruger collection with the profits!!

I have heard that there are more than a few counterfeit Morgan and peace dollars being sold on-line. From what I understand they are coming out of China and do not contain the correct amount of silver. People are leery of not buying them face to face.
There are dealers everywhere. I have collected coins off and on over the years. The coin industry is very competitive and with online selling everyone is able to see what everyone else is charging.
Dealers go off the greybook it has wholesale and retail prices.
If you have substantial collection made by a collector you can easily separate the key coins which are the rarer ones with low montages
If you have a box of coins just saved from before 1965 you will have silver value.
Dollars are popular but mostly high grade and rare dates. The site coinflation will value silver and gold coins. You can check the NGC website for values on most American coins. You have to expect much less than what is shown on the guide

I love coins and stamps. I have been buying the Stamp yearbooks since they came out. In the early 90's they were not very expensive. The 2024 book and stamps was $198 this year!!!!! I love Morgan and Peace dollars. Condition dictates price and it's hard to grade them in my opinion. I like buying coins graded from a well-known grading company like PSGS or NGC to name a couple. Yea I have had too many hobbies all my life. There will be a grand garage sale here one day. Ha

I've been collecting coins and currency for quite a few years. It gets expensive when you collect stuff like 1928 gold certificates, red seals etc., especially 100 year old star notes,500 and 1,000$ bills. Now I'm concentrating on very early 1800's silver dollars and halves. My advice would be(even though it seems expensive now) if your gonna do it, collect coins and currency that will keep appreciating in value

I see video snips about coins and bills often and was thinking about possibly trying to make some money off my money. Ebay shows lots of bills etc on there but how do you price it etc?

What got me thinking about it more was a birthday note 02162004.

Any and all input is welcomed. Thanks,
And whatever you do don't fall for the graded silver eagles or almost any other modern coins/buillion,,,overvalued, overhyped

I have a $2 silver certificate I got in natural transfer out in public. I think it's 1929 issued. I have some un-circulated pre-64 (?) quarters rolls. You can rarely buy on eBay and resell to make a profit on anything.

I'm pretty sure there were no 2$ silver certs issued in '29 might wanna double check that one. Un-circulated '54 quarter rolls are sweet! While not necessarily collectable they have about 5.50$ in silver content each coin. Your right about ebay. If you're interested in selling em shoot me a pm with pics, I'll make you an offer
