Many years ago, me and Splitz were at an estate sale/farm auction. There was a pristine Weatheby (German) 270 WBMag. The auctioneer didn't even know what it was but did his best to 'put it on the block'. Once I started bidding, it was apparent that a young fella with some money was gonna bring that baby home no matter what. I just kept bidding him up till it got to what I could have bought one new for....... raised him just a tad more and STOPPED. It's always fun !!!!!!!

I'm bidding on a thing and people are bidding against me. Of all the nerve.

EBay is tough. An early bid is sure to drive the price up, and a last minute bid is easy to beat.

The GB system is interesting. Any bid in the last 15 minutes extends the finish time by 15 minutes. I have won several auctions by just putting in my highest bid days before the auction is over.

Too late. He beat me by $5.
I don't play the fame. I put in my top bid and wait. They either quit when the auto-bid raises them or pay above my top, meaning that they over-pay. What's fun is if they are the owner or shill and get stuck with it. They then re-list, I take ten percent of my top bid, and we go again. They may end up getting stuck a couple of times, and I get it for 30 percent below my original top.

The ones that kill me are the GB Guns with a Starting bid way over market value.... Those I watch until they relist them at a more reasonable price... sometimes I lose out to someone with more money than they deserve.....

Make one bid early in the auction, set your max bid to an amount you won't miss if you win. Never check on the item during the bid. The more you look at it, the more popular it looks. You will be notified when you win, unless I get it.
That just happened with a single-six in 17hmr.... I had completely forgot I had even bid on it, although I remember I was planning on it.... got an email from Proxibid "You have a new invoice".... WTF?!?! What did I buy!?!?!

Price, after all the fees, was still below current pricing, so I'm okay with it! I actually just got the notice that it shipped about an hour ago...

I have some antique (means old, worn out) farm tractors and equipment. I am an avid Ebay bidder. I see someting, add it to my watch list and forget about it. The seller might send me a "private offer". I wait for that to expire, then offer him 25% of what he was asking.
If I place a bid on ebay or a gun site, I set a maximum, put that amount in my Paypal account and forget about it.
When I get an email about it, I need to go back and see what is on the way, now.
