Converting DAO GP100 to SA/DA

What parts would need to be changed to convert my police trade-in double action only GP100 to a conventional setup? Hammer only? Is this going to be a job for a pistolsmith, or will the parts require only minor fitting? (In the olden days I bought a spurless hammer from Ruger and it dropped in with no fitting on my Speed Six.)

Thanks for any advice.

You need a single action notch on the hammer, now if you can file one or have to buy a hammer, I do not know with rugers.

You'll just need a hammer. Neither Brownells or Midway had one listed, it might be a fitted part. In any case, its worth calling Ruger to see if they will convert it or sell you the hammer.

I doubt whether they will do either, especially sell you a hammer ....

Ruger tends to believe that their guns should stay as delivered.

Thats why you call or email them. I have inquired about modifications to my shotguns and they were willing to make them, albeit at a pretty high price.

Get ready for a shock. Ruger will do it for arround $200 as per the last quote I got. They will not sell you a hammer. You might be able to get a hammer on gunbroker.

A smith could weld up your hammer and cut the sear shelf & notch. I would guess around $100 for the job... You could post on various gun boards, and see if someone wants to trade, DA for SA/DA- that's probably your best bet.

Absolutely ... or just sell and rebuy ... a lot cheaper with better results.
