Considering a Peep Site for my Marlin 336

I have my grandfathers 336RC (.30-.30) made in 1953, came with a Lyman peep sight. Carried it deer hunting for several years back in the early eighties and it did the job very well. Eventually switched over to a 4x scope and then switched to my 788 Remington 6mm which I like better for whitetail, mostly head shots and less meat loss when I do have to shoot body. Like others I loved the look of the 336 with the peep sight and will eventually put it back that way.

If you can find a Merit Adjustable Peep Sight that should help you a lot on the back end. Setting a rifle up for your shooting conditions should be kept in mind. Jack O'Conner was shooting mountain goat at 200 yards with "iron" sights well before he went to a "telescopic" sight. I remember Finn Aagaard finally accepting variable power scopes as reliable.
I grew up with a Merit peep screwed into a Lyman 66MC on Dad's Marlin 39A .22.
