Just curious if there is such and animal? I have been casting these and really like them. I know starting loads are around 17k pressure, so it doesn't seem too unreasonable that there can be a load that is a little less than that and would be safe with the appropriate powder. Just have not been able to find that load yet.

Thanks

17k loads will be no problem in a Colt SAA or Ruger New Vaquero. Both are plenty strong for that kind of pressure.

Only concern I'd have is if it would 'fit' as the cylinder is a bit shorter on the New Vaquero.

They fit fine in the New Vaquero as well as Colt clones. Guess there isn't a load listed for them that someone here has tried.

The Hodgdon site shows this load for the 300 grain Sierra JSP bullet. You could gauge from there where a safe load might be:

300 GR. SIE JFP
Hodgdon HS-6
.452", 1.670"
9.0 grains - 616 fps @ 9,600 CUP
10.0 grains - 730 fps @ 13,700 CUP
