My wife and I watched this match last night. On Peacock (NBC's streaming service) they have an Olympics section. So you can watch just about every sport.

I had no idea the Chinese and Korean teams dominated the Olympic air rifle event.

Some interesting facts:
The Kazakhstan Team did very well to get the Bronze they beat out Germany.

But the Chinese team was a 17 year old boy and 17 year old girl. The girl was just incredible to watch. She must have had nerves of steel. She was so calm and focused. Just amazing.

They also said the air rifle event is one of the oldest Olympic events. Dating back to the 1890's.

I told my wife someday I will have one of those rifles. Wow! What great works of engineering and machinery.

I'm going to watch more of the air rifle and pistol events.

Good to know they are so good with their BB guns. If they wanted a real match they would at least be shooting 30-06.
I watched part of another shooting match at lunch yesterday. The commentators talked about one Korean shooter, he has only been shooting for 1 year.

Now please tell me how someone can go from zero to an Olympic shooter in 365 days???

In most gun classes it is easer to start with a novice than someone who has been doing it 'wrong' for 20-30 years....
I was helping out with a class a few weeks ago and we were talking about shooting a rifle and someone mentioned tripping the trigger between breath and I said in reality for the real shot you do it between heart beats.... now that I think about this a slow pulse would be a benefit to a sniper... my father's was about 42 bpm. Now I'm wondering if anyone has done the research on this and the really good long range shooters.

Air Rifles are not only enjoyable, but a tremendous way to shoot a rifle. So many misconceptions.
When I was young, my father a career Marine, shooting enthusiast would take me hunting with him. And the funny thing was, we never talked about his rifle, ammo, etc. In fact, I did not even have one for years. What he did teach me was the love of nature. How to recognize different tracks, how deer live, where the bed down, how they use their sense of smell, hearing. And all the other things so lovely about nature, birds, insects, trees and on and on. Later I just was able to carry his rifle. It was important for him to know I could just do this 100% correctly. (This is after he sent me to a NRA Hunter Safety course.)
Time to learn to shoot.
When it came time to shoot, I was taken out. to hill. And my father said OK. Time to learn the most major things for a good rifle shooter. A target was a can about 50 yds away and I had a bolt action .22 cal. Now I want you to lay there and focus on that can. Pretend it is the only thing in the entire world.
I want you to feel the sun, the wind, your breathing, BECOME ONE WITH THE GUN. ONE SHOT ONE KILL.
Lol, I was given one round that day. I missed.
I was disappointed with myself. I looked up and my Dad was looking at me and said "You did fine, you learned something today. Now we can go home and you will have time to think about your first lesson."

I posted this picture for a reason. It is what I do as a adult shooter with a Pellet rifle. I call it wind shooting. One shot to center vein of leaf with a one shot rifle. You think it is easy, try it. Be prepared for a lot of Patience, A lot of focus. Be ready to feel that slight wind on that little leaf, the precise time it will come to a split second stop from the wind.. Try it and you might understand why a Pellet rifle is a ideal way to enjoy the art of shooting a rifle.
