Celebs you have met...

Rusty Wallace and Pete Rose, @ an APBA Offshore Boat Race meeting in Sarasota FL. Both had boats racing..I was throttle guy on an A class boat.
Both nice and interested in racing..both ask how we had done after the race..it was nice to say we finished 2nd instead of a DNF...or DFL...:)
Pete was hounded for autographs..Rusty just kind of blended in..

KidRock, I was working on my sons Superbike at a Daytona tire test, Bob was there with Michael Jordan (who was a team owner), he rides into our garage on a friends pitbike.."Where's RaceDad"introduced himself as Bob Ritchie ... we drank cold beer and talked about motorcycles, right up until others figured out who he was and started hounding him for an autograph...I'd not trade places..what a pain in the ass.

Billy Joe Shaver, went to see his show at Eddies Attic, he stayed after and talked for a couple hours, seemed to have no interest in leaving until they turned off the lights..

Lead singer for Wet Willy and one of the best harmonica player and blues singers ever… I've met him several times on the Delbert McClinton Sandy Beaches Blues Cruise.
My favorite brush with greatness was years ago meeting Donna Douglas (Ellie May Clampet of Beverly Hillbilly's) really sweet lady.
When I was really young, the band lived in an old farmhouse down the road. He used to come by every so often and visit the folks that owned it. One night they called me and said hey come over and meet Jimmy. I was of course awed and he was indeed a super nice guy.

Forgot about Kid Rock.....I wouldn't call it "meeting" but he said "whats up brother" to me. We were in Tootsies (Nashville) when he walked in. The management was kicking everyone out. He and his entourage walked in as I was walking out. I was in Nashville for work, and we were having a good time. I was a bit miffed being asked to leave so he could have the entire place for himself....I looked ay him and said in a snide way "thanks a lot Kid". He smiled and said "whats up brother". I think he was already lit on whatever:rolleyes:

John Wayne and Lee Marvin

My father was a carpenter and did lots of sets for movies at Old Tucson back in the early 60's.
When they filmed McLintock he worked on the sets.
He took us kids to watch , and we got to have a sack lunch and meet John Wayne.

My neighbor and Lee Marvin were friends.
She was the first person that was certified by Arizona Game and Fish to take care of animals for them.
Lee Marvin would come by from time to time to see her , and he would always bring something she could use for the animals. Lots of time it was dog food or blankets.
He also cleaned up around the place and made dump runs for her.
Lee Marvin said , " she has the only house where you have to wipe your feet when you leave. "
I still have a newspaper article that was written about her and mentions him saying that.

My Father was a WWII vet also.
Anytime Lee Marvin came by to see my neighbor , if my Father was around he would stop by and say hi.
He always drove an old early 60's Chevy truck .

The only one I have been around perhaps a dozen times or so when he visits Hubbard Texas and sit with him a bit is Dennis Quaid. His mother's side of the family are named Jordan. He visits the small farm town fairly regularly to visit his grandparents graves in Hubbard and will hang out at the diner for breakfast or dinner between attending church services spending time with his uncles and cousins. Hubbard is just over the county line from Limestone county, my mother in law and her siblings grew up about 12 miles from Hubbard and all the small farm towns so they all knew each other and often were kin in some way.

I have never met a celeb, that's OK, but would love to meet Carl Higbie someday. :)

George Foreman, at the Atlantis Casino in Reno, NV. I was 6' at the time, but WOW, George was a BIG/HUGE man, proportionately so. I asked for his autograph on a boxing card, but he said his manager had not approved that companies cards, however, he suggested, he would be happy to sign his name on a piece of paper. We were iat the front desk of the hotel so they gave me one and George signed it. He had his famous smile and one could not help, but smile back at him.
When I was a kid of 9 I had the great opportunity to meet JFK. It was the Monday before Dallas. My life changed dramatically that day. I can still remember vividly how tan he was and the color of his hair. He and my neighbor were close so I was invited to sit and keep the questions to the minimum. My neighbor died soon after from a broken heart.

There is a saying "The difference between fame and shame is media slant".
The main determining factor whether someone becomes a celebrity is media approval.
If you think the mass media is on your side, you are likely to be someone who would like a celebrity.

Stood on the shady side next to Kareem Jabbar. He was decked out in buckskins and sixshooters at the End ofTrail SASS event.About 2004.

I met R. Lee Ermey once. I took my daughter & her boy cousin up to a meet & greet he was doing at a local gun shop when they were little. I took them because the boy liked watching Mail Call. He came across as a nice person.
