I'm trying to find a discrete backpack for the Ruger Precision Rifle (24 inch barrel) and not surprisingly I am having some issues.
Why do I need it? Because I'm on a budget and I am trying to make the rifle double as a (Heavy!) hunting rifle this fall and would prefer to hike it out in a pack vs slung. Also the pack can double as a discrete carry case from nosey neighbors. (I unfortunately live in a dense area so my neighbors are a mix of pearl clutching Karens and ghetto monsters that would gladly either start trouble, stick their nose where it doesn't belong, or try to steal stuff, depending on which ones you are talking about.)
Unfortunately most discrete backpacks are designed for sub guns, PDWs, and broken down AR Carbines, not full size behemoths like the Ruger Precision Rifle (nearly 3 feet folded!), so short of getting a ridiculous long range hiking style backpack like some kind of Appalachian trail through hiker or backwoods camper that would hand half way to my knees and sit just a bit over the top of my head I am looking for ways to force this in to a more "normal" and discreet looking pack, something that wouldn't look too absurd to see say a commuter or gym rat carrying.
One thing that I have considered is detaching the entire folding hinge mechanism, but is that even possible? And if so would that effect zero? If it can be done, and doing so won't throw off zero, how would I do it?
