Buckeye 10MM/ 32/40

Help Support Ruger Forum:

Condition, condition, condition, along with the extras all affect the price. And as noted,,, it's either a 10mm/38-40 or a 3220/32 H&R mag.
Clarify & add details.

One of them NIB,, with everything is about $1000. Deduct from that if the box, papers are missing, or it's used, or it's missing anything original.

RENE Price Guide has these at around $700, but that would be in "pristine" condition with box, papers, etc . . . and the proper original grip panels.

Note that there may be regional price variations.

I would buy all I could get that were NIB for $700.00. Last two I saw in the past year both went for $850.00 and both were shooters in excellent condition. They are in good demand around here,,JM$0.02

Well there is one at Cabelas in Hamburg Pa for either $669 or $699. As I noted it looks like someone shot it but not very much and it does not have original grips nor any paperwork or box. FYI - not in gun room but out on floor with other used guns. Not sure if they really new what it was.

Original grips can be had pretty easily. Boxes are a little tougher.

I pulled my value out of the RENE price guide, as well as from what I've seen actually sell. I just went & got out my RENE price guide,,, and see there are (2) listings showing Blackhawks in those 2 calibers,,, without the distinction of saying which one is the Buckeye Sports. BUT,,, it shows one section as "New Model Blackhawks,, with the values Ale-8(1) has posted. BUT,,, under the larger section of "Two Digit serial numbered guns, and New Model Single-Actions" the values are $960 & $910. Add in a few I've seen advertised for more than $1100,, and all,,, with a few sales in the $1000 mark, I arrived at my figures.
BUT,,,,,,,,,,,, all this is moot as the gun in question is used, no box & papers, and missing original grips. I'd say it's priced more in accordance with the condition & all. And if someone is hunting one of those,,, a savy guy with cash may just be able to go in there & haggle a bit.

OK, specifically . . .

Under Scarce New Models, New Model Blackhawks, RENE lists the .32-20/.32Mag convertible and the .38-40/10mm convertible, priced at $735 and $700, respectively. As these are the ONLY such Blackhawk convertibles they are, by definition, the Buckeye Sports versions.

There is also listed the .44-40/.44Mag convertible Blackhawk at $845, and while these are sometimes considered part of the "series" they are not marked nor considered to be a Buckeye Sports version.

These prices, as all RENE prices, are an average of solicited information among collectors. They are by no means hard and fast, and were in fact taken several months ago by a survey Chet15 distributes to such respected individuals in the hobby. If you ask any number of folks what the "value" of any gun is, you will get as many different answers. So, based on condition, completeness of the entire package, the region in which the gun is offered for sale, the time of day, the weather, the stock market activity, and what one had for breakfast, you will get many answers. In this instance, a range of likely prices apparently runs from perhaps $600 to over $1000.

When it comes right down to it, the "right" price is the one the seller and buyer agree on. Haggling is an honorable, long accepted approach . . . with some folks.

over the years we have sold MANY, many sets and singles of the "Buckeye Specials" ( as we dealt a lot with Johns Sporting Goods in Canton) and all in all low numbered or regular, new and used, boxed and unboxed, the less desireable (marketable) ??? 38-40/10mm sold at the MOST for $750, and the more favorable ( easier to sell, marketable) 32-20/32 H&R mag versions at the MOST ,went for $850 and those were two digit numbered guns........these are gunshop, store, and gun show prices.NEVER auctioned ANY off...........most of the live auctions around here, you would not even get those prices,we've got them "at auction" around here for less than $550-600......seen a couple go for LESS than $500, my friend bought them both........... 8)
( for example Bob C.s son got a MINT OM 45 convertible from a "local auction" for $450, so go figure)

and our late friend Bob H, took his last 5 Rugers to a "local auction" south of here and never even got back the money he had in them at the old, retail prices......... :? :(

I would LOVE to get Blue book or RENE prices on ANY of the guns I put out for sale on my tables on any given weekend show,,,,,one reason I quit setting up at the OGCA in Wilmington,Oh... 8) :(

Yep, and Dan hints at another potential variable on these "Buckeye" guns.

For some collectors, low serial numbers will bring a further premium, and since there were over 5000 of each of these made, there is quite a number of single-digit, two-digit, and three-digit guns out there. Let your imagination run wild.

Now Ruger through Lipsey has come out with the 10mm/40S&W convertible. Just thinking this may alter pricing on the old guys.

Bought one at the end of last year and it goes well with my 1976 Blackhawk in 357 Mag.

Yep, and I believe there was a 10mm/40S&W Vaquero convertible, as well as a .32-20/.32Mag, too. "Collect the whole set!"

And numerous variations of the .45Colt/.45ACP converts.

Still only the two Buckeyes, though . . . so far. ;-)

About 5 years ago a fella at a regional show put out a 38-40/10mm Buckeye for $650. It was lightly used, but a complete package. He has put it out every show since and now has the price at $950. No takers in 5 years. I have one, so not interested. I paid less than $650 for an incomplete package + extras a little over a year ago.

My cousin picked up the matching set approx. 4 years ago at gun show. Included boxes, shippers and some advertising posters for $1100. I think he did OK on those.
