I hope Maine can remain free of Chronic Wasting Disease. Feeding stations like that can spread it like wildfire...

Hmm, just how is CWD passed? I thought it had to do with eating the brain or spinal chord tissue. When carcasses were ground up into feed is how it was passed in cattle and sheep.

Mode of transmission among deer is not fully known, but it is known it can be spread via saliva. Feeders such as the troughs shown provide an easy route of transmission. Feeders that spread the feed are believed to be less risky.

I love watching the deer and really miss the days we could bait deer but I do wonder if it is safe practice to create bait piles and feeding stations. Here's some Q&A on Chronic wasting disease put out by the VT Fish and Wildlife Dept.

^^^ This ^^^ (emphasis is added) Feeding stations like that are illegal in Wisconsin.

The only restriction on feeding deer in Maine is Baiting during Hunting season.
Altho feeding is discouraged. Funny thing, food plots are not considered Baiting
go figure hunting over food plots is allowed. ps
