Finally got around to taking some pictures of the photobox and adjusting the lighting. The photobox is simply a cardboard box with the sides and top cut out and tissue paper fastened over the sides and top to serve as light diffusers. The backdrop is a folded piece of white posterboard. The lamps were bought at Target and can use up to 100 watt bulbs. I've been using the GE Reveal 100 bulbs. A tripod and using the camera's timer function are musts to taking good pics.

Here are pics of my Smith and Wesson Model 19. Nickel plated guns are tough to photograph. I've included several different pics since I can't decide which I like the most. I can't seem to completely eliminate the reflection of the camera onto the gun.

Have you tried to bounce the light off a piece of white paper so the light is reflected rather than directly on the piece being photographed? It may just defuse the light enough to stop the reflection.
