Nothing wrong with the polished SS on my NV "Fast Draw" .357. I did put these Altamonts on though….

Nice collection there Jim. Looking at the picture there, reminds me I need to get out and shoot one of my ROAs yet this year before the snow flys.... I think I'll leave my Walker at home though :) .

A couple of my .45 Colt Vaqueros Old meets New...

Those 'three screw' Vaqueros are 'custom' Old Models. You know, send off to someone to do the machine work on the frame to give it fixed sights.... That is what you had to do before the Vaqueros came along.

The only advantage I have found to the Vaquero was when my wife was shooting cowboy action: the nice polished stainless went well with elk horns from Executioner and the smaller grips seemed to fit her.

My New Vaquaros. First one is made in 2004 with warning on side of the bbl and still with good original color case hardening. Last one is a Special Edition and I love the dark black color and polish.

I have the vaquero in .45 colt and it's one of my favorite revolvers. I also have the Ruger super Redhawk in .44mag and wouldn't trade that for anything either.
I have shot a .357 Blackhawk and was impressed with it but holding one of the newer Blackhawks doesn't feel the same as the one that I shot some time ago.
It feels for me like an unnatural tilt downwards and I would really have to put some rounds through it to get use to it.
I guess that's a long winded way to say I vote for the vaquero.

What is a 'three screw" vaquero? I have never heard of that model?
When the Ruger first came out with the single action revolver they made it similar to the old Colt Single Action Army. The 3 screw Blackhawk was identified by (you'll never guess) 3 screws on the side. It was unsafe to load all 6 rounds in it because the hammer would rest on a primer. In 1973 Ruger made their single action revolvers safe by adding a transfer bar. This made sure that you must have your finger holding the trigger down at the same time the hammer hits the primer. They also retrofited the 3 screw Blackhawk with this transfer bar for free to anyone that would send their gun in. The problem is this transfer bar adds to the trigger feel. Collectors seek out the old 3 screw revolvers that have not been retrofited.

Thank you , I am familiar with the Old Model and Flat top , and own a few. But I have never heard of a "three screw " Vaquero. It was never a factory option.

In 1973 they came out with the "New Model Blackhawk" which had the transfer bar. The Three Screw was the name for the old model but Ruger never called it a Three Screw. So no it never was a factory option.

Yes, I am aware of the history, but what i am saying is, the term three screw & vaquero can't/should not, be used together because there is no such thing. Last three screw made in 72-73 time frame all (blackhawks), New Models starts in 73, all Blackhawks. Vaquero not made until 20 years later in 1993!. Therefore ,it is not possible to have a "three screw" vaquero.(IMHO)
