Blackhawk slightly out of time

My 357/9mm Blackhawk cocks just slightly before the cylinder bolt (latch) drops into place. I was thinking about a Power Custom pawl for it anyway and was wondering if anybody has installed one of these and how it affected their timing.
Or should I just get a new Ruger pawl and see if that fixes it?
Thanks for any advice.

Welcome to the Forum!

Your Blackhawk is experiencing what is called "late carry-up timing".

The second tooth on your pawl is short. It can be stretched via hammer forging but I'd try a new part since they are so inexpensive.

Power's "free spin" pawl may or may not require some precision fitting, FYI. I've never used a free spin design.

Ruger makes a "free spin" pawl, as well, and the one that should (?) work in your Blackhawk was made for the 50th Anniv. .44 Magnum "Flattop".

I didn't even think of using the new 50th Blackhawk pawl. I wonder if that'd work.
You're right about the Ruger part being so cheap. I guess I'll get onw on my next Brownells order.
