That pretty much explains why its a Type 3 then. October 1958 is when Ruger was in the 13xxx range for shipments of the .44 flattop. This would also be why the rear sight screw doesn't have the notch in it.
Again, would not be surprising to learn some day that this gun was considered a "milestone" number of some sort, so was held back for a while. Being shipped in October 1958 would have also been the exact time period when the factory made a valid attempt to reduce their inventory of such "milestone" guns so they wouldn't have to make the trip from the Red Barn to Lacey Place.
