I intend to study it some more, as it interests me. But from what I've seen so far he deserved it. Apparently he was one heck of a scammer and fraudster and pulled the wool over a lot of folks heads for years, and profiting from it.
I first learned of Mr. Wilson through a documentary In the Blood. Great show with the descendants and friends of President of Teddy Roosevelt on an African Safari. I did not know until later he was "Ultimate" Gun Coffee Table book guy and the Bona fide Ultimate Colt expert. This was 93 or 94 but a couple years later I attended the Antique Arms show in Las Vegas. Mr. Wilson had a table peddling his latest book, I was excited to visit with the man. In less that 2 minutes I learned that he was such an arrogant, condescending and dismissive human being. Hard to believe he was a son of a preacher (if I am not mistaken).
To learn he was with a doubt the Bernie Madoff Gun Collecting was not a shock to me. Typically, many people in the gun industry stood by the poor falsely convicted Wilson. I suspect it was easier than swallowing the load of crap he had fed them in selling them fake guns or conning them into purchasing highly inflated priced collector Colt pistols. Supposedly priced so he could get a bigger cut of the sale.
Pretty sad how it all worked out for Mr. Wilson, perhaps he was having a bad day when he treated me in the way that he did who knows. I Believe that was the same year I was honored to spend time visiting with Mr. Bill Jordan in the Pachmayr grips booth at the Shot Show days before, quite a difference in the quality of men in the experience I had with them.

Yeah, Wilson was a putz but his books were neat.

They are full of world class photography for sure. There are two or three maybe more around the house bought on clearance at Hastings, Barnes and Noble. Never even before my personal interaction with him would I have paid even half price for one.
