In '62, I would have been nine.

And just a couple years later, I discovered Elly May was RED HOT.
Met "Elly May" Donna Douglas at a dance at my Moose Lodge back in the late 70's or early 80's, she was just as sweet and kind and pretty in person as she was on the TV show. Our neighbor met Max Baer in California when he returned from Vietnam, Max gave him and his friends his phone card and told them all to call home and talk as long as they wanted. Wish I could have met Granny and had some of her rheumatiz medicine and vittles, nutin like a batch of home cooked turnip greens and possum inards with some pickled buzzard eggs and maybe a little bowl of snider swamp surprise, Mmmm mmm now that would be some good eating
