Mort Walker, whose "Beetle Bailey" comic strip followed the exploits of a lazy G.I. and his inept cohorts at the dysfunctional Camp Swampy, and whose dedication to his art form led him to found the first museum devoted to the history of cartooning, died Jan. 27 at his home in Stamford, Conn. He was 94.

Hi,

I always liked the interaction between Beetle and Sgt. Snorkel. And Sarge's dog, Otto, was fun, too! Never spent any time on Army bases but always wondered if they actually had the likes of Miss Buxley running around. RIP, Mr. Walker, and thank you for so many years of those entertaining characters.

Incredible! RIP Mr. Walker! I honestly didn't know he was still around. I read Beetle Bailey for most of my growing up years. Haven't seen a newspaper comic strip in 45 years or better.

We still get Beetle Bailey in our Sunday paper. After growing up on Army and Air Bases and being drafted into the Army I find a lot of humor and reality in that comic strip. It's usually the first comic strip I read on Sunday.

From Wikipedia . . .

"Over the years, Mort Walker had been assisted by (among others) Jerry Dumas, Bob Gustafson, Frank Johnson and Walker's sons Neal, Brian and Greg Walker. The latter is currently credited on the strip."
