I am in Las Vegas for the weekend and stoped by the Bass Pro store to look at the Fine Gun room and Gunsmith Shop. Both are closed! An employee notice me looking thru the window of the gunsmith shop at all of their equipment and told me that Bass Pro is closing all of the Fine Gun rooms and gunsmith shops except the Home store in Springfield and the one in Denver.

It doesn't surprise me a bit. They should stick to fishing. They finally figured out that there isn't much of a market for $5-$600 guns that have price tags of $1000 and up. Just a generalization there but you know what I mean.

Still it is one less place to buy a gun. Pretty soon there won't be any the way things are going. Strangled out by over regulation.

I don't remember seeing any $1000 firearms in the "Fine Gun Room".
I have however seen a bunch for $10,000 - $50,000.
I've stayed at the Silverton Casino there in Vegas many times and have
walked off many dinners there at Bass Pro.
Their fishing dept is indeed awesome.

I agree with Rodbuster416, I like to go to the Fine Gun Room in Vegas, it gives me the same feeling of going Christmas shopping when I was a kid.
In todays terms "So many neat guns and so little time". I think Bass Pro and Cabelas have help hunters and fishermen alot since they started to branch out around the go old US of A.

don't think they quiting guns, just no longer have a "special" room of really expensive ones and doing repairs. they'll likely still have a few cases I would guess. guy at the Harrisburg store seems to think they're staying in the firearms business.

I just saw this, and agree with what's been said. Doesn't surprise me a bit, I walked into that exact "Fine Gun" room a year and a half ago, when one of the clerks handed me what he described to be a S&W K22, priced at $450, and when I looked it over, it was actually a darn decent Model 53 Remington Jet, worth over $1200. I was on vacation, and didn't really feel like going through the hassle of it all to get this gun, as Jets never were all that great revolvers, but even after I explained to him his mistake, he acted clueless to the extent of it all. Then as if to make matters worse, he actually did have an 8-3/8" K22 priced at $750, go figure why they didn't make it.

Harrisburg Pa. closed their's back in the winter and axed their smith due to not taking trades any longer. Repairs go back to factory from what I'm told.

I, also, have walked the isles of the local Bass Pro Shop and can tell you two things about them.
(1) As a fishing shop they are first rate and very well stocked.
(2) As a gun shop they are a first rate fishing shop first rate and very well stocked.

In Richmond Va. we have two other fairly large shops within three miles of the Bass Pro shop, A Gander Mt. (and that is another story) and a large local shop, Green Tops that has been serving hunters and fishermen as well as all types of shooting to include Bow since 1947.
A couple of the salesmen at Bass Pro were former Green Top employees and admitted that Bass Pro was very thin of many guns, other than hunting guns, it seems to be some sort of company policy.
I have bought a set of Lee 41 Mag pistol dies from them for a slightly higher price, however, they had them I needed them and I bought them.

I have the good fortune to have these three shops within a three mile area and I go to them on a semi frequent basis and I DO purchase some things from all, however, when push comes to pull, I give most of my support to the privately owned shop with employees who have more product knowledge than just saying, "This has got to be right, see, it has the correct stock number".

Only in the past few years has there been a couple of Bass Pro stores within a couple of hours drive from us.
I'm not aware that either have the 'fine gun room'.
Still, it's like being a kid at Christmas time because of the sheer volume of 'stuff' related to hunting, shooting and fishing.
With that said, most of my $$$$ still go to my favorite Mom & Pop store.
