hello ,happy new year.........i just wanna know what it means by term TURNED BARRELS.i am planning to replace my .22 lr barrel with a 19.5 inch anshutz barrel blank........any advice how to go about it.......thanks
That term applies to barrels carrying iron sights which are screwed into the receiver, and bottom out in the wrong position; i.e. the sight(s) are not at the 12:00 position.
I took "turned" barrel to mean the finish that is currently being applied to Ruger's 10/22 barrels.
When Ruger went to their new 10/22 finish ("crackle" ion finish receiver) they also started finishing their barrels in a true "matte" finish. Somebody at Ruger must have figured that it would be even more efficient if they just went ahead and "turned" a fine lathe surface around the barrels thereby saving one additional finish step with a step that had to be done anyway to get down to the final barrel contour.
