While I know there are some excellent newer aircraft,, I always seem to truly appreciate these older birds.

Me too. I grew up in the late 40's and old planes are what I grew up with. I had Uncles that were on B-17 crews and B-29's.

During WWII, my dad was stationed in North Africa. He worked on and patched up a lot of those old war birds. Some would limp home all shot to pieces and have to make risky landings. It was amazing the damage they could take and still make it home.

Interesting pictures of a photo P-38/F-4-5 and a B-25. The area around the B-17G doesn't look like North Africa. Did your Dad move on to Italy with the 97th Bomb Group.
I don't think G models flew out of Africa.
My Dad flew out of Foggia Italy with the 97th Bomb Group. He also flew in B-29s during Korea and B-36s after flying in Korea.

Why yes sir, he did. Not sure if it was with the 97th but he went from Oran, on Africa's north coast, over to Italy...possibly to Foggia. I can't say for sure...he passed back in 1986, so its' been a while since I last heard him talk of it. Those photos could very well be from there. We have a box full of photos like that, mostly nose art, he made with a pinhole camera he made over there. Unfortunately, nothing of time or place was written on the backs of them. Here's a few more.
