Tonight,, the ABC national news had a short blurb of a story, with video, taken in Asheville NC. It showed a home owner relaxing on his carport, as a bear walked up. He got startled,, and when he jumped,, so did the bear. It ran off & I guess he may have needed clean underwear.

I thought it was funny!

My youngest son currently lives in Asheville; black bears are relatively common in some areas. He will soon be returning to the Roanoke area; his first home there had frequent bruin visitors.

This guy came to visit one night last year. Unfortunately, he ventured onto a nearby bridge in the early morning and a coworker’s son hit and killed it on his way to work.

The same story, yet a bit longer also made the local Asheville news at 11:00 last night. Apparently,, the guy has bird feeders that they enjoy getting into. The homeowner has OTHER videos of bears on his porch, on his deck, in his trees with bird feeders. DUHH!!!!! He should not be surprised by his black furry visitors when he's the reason they are visiting his house. He even commented that throughout much of the year he sees bears "about every other day."

NC FNS,, I wonder if the bear you have a picture of is the same bear hit by the car. Due to the number of bears we have locally, it could have easily been a different one. Not saying it wasn't,, just a curiosity thought. We do have a fair number of bears around.

Yep,,, the locals in Asheville feed the bears,, but they also are very fierce about "protecting" the bears. They often excuse stuff bears do without looking at WHY the bears do the things they do.

Ok, ok, ok. My typing wasn't 100% clear. I meant the GUY needed a change of underwear. Sheesh!

We live 1 hr from Glacier National Park.
The Grizz in this area have exploded in population yet, they're still a protected species.

Farmer with cattle get kills on their cattle all the time. But wait! The state pays them out $1200 per steer when their cattle are killed, with one condition....they don't go to the media about their cows being killed.

They need to open up a limited Grizz hunt here in NW Montana. Bear encounters with lower valley farms here in the Flathead valley are common. The herd needs to be culled back.

I don't know about black bears, but if you're trying to tell me that Smokey goes commando under those jean, I'm not buyin' it.

Smokey is a Commando, he does the "GO" in the woods as proven by internet photographs, along with in my yard on rare occasions. I do nothing in Flat Rock to attract them. I live at the top of the Green River Gorge, mostly itinerants.

Pretty sure it was the same bear. It was killed less than a mile away, and I haven’t seen it since. We usually get a few visits a year…

We had a black bear in eastern Virginia (Smithfield) last week. Not unheard of, mjust not common in town. He was behind the Hardees,. I know it wasn't because of there food. LOL

"Bears in Trashville are just another breed of street people that live off the beaten path."

I about choked with laughter at this comment. So, so true. But at least the bears aren't getting free needles, and scamming people at intersections for money.

When in reality, their actions are killing the bears in one way or another. We're certainly on the same page on this subject.
