My Dad grew up a Sacramento Valley country boy but became a diabetic due to trauma in World War 2.

Huh? He broke his pancreas?

Some had it even worse. I had a perfectly good bicycle, but in seventh and eighth grades that wasn't "cool" transportation.

That's funny. When my brother was in junior high, it was either walk or bike and if you were cool, you didn't walk.
