I was just on flea bay and saw an auction that started at $10.99 for 2 new factory Ruger 10 round 10/22 mags with 3 days left the biding is at $150.00. No shill bidders as everyone has more than 300 feedback and the top bider has more than 600. Don't people realize that mags are available. I just picked up 3 at Wally World for $15.99 each on Friday.

Bidding sites have always been that way. When looking for a surefire flashlight years ago I watched over and over again people bidding prices more than they could have bought the exact same light from the factory. The thrill of the victory, the thought of bumping a bid so the next bidder gets stuck, or some other reason... I don't know.

Sometimes I wonder how much of this is also possibly people with mutiple accounts bumping their own bids in hopes of catching a sucker and sticking them in the end. Gunbroker says they work to prevent it but I have seen some bidder names that looked awfully similar bidding on the same box of 22 ammo recently that makes me wonder. And if they say they work to prevent it.... It must mean it happens sometimes.

My method is to figure out my max and when I get there walk away and never go back for a second look. So far I have never been stuck (or no more than I was willing to get stuck!).

I understand that bidding does get out of hand but even at the last local gun show some guys were selling 10 round mags for $85.00 and I did see a lot of idiots purchase them. The same weekend as the gun show a local Army Navy surplus store had the same Ruger mags for $21.99.

If you're not bidding on it, what difference does it make what someone else pays for anything? If you want one, and know where you can get it for 15.99, buy them there. Everybody's happy.

I think at lot of times at auctions it is a game mentality. Like going to a casino.

I saw an auction on gunbroker where one guy was selling his semiauto .22 with one 10rd mag and for an extra $50 he'd throw in a twelve rd magazine. I send him a question why he was selling the 12 rd mag for $50 when they could be bought new from Midwayusa for $24.99. I never got an answer.

They are not available around here and on back order at Shop Ruger. I have been watching them on eBay. The average going price has been around $27 but I found a guy yesterday selling them for $19.95. Those people are paying way too much.

The new TD I just got came with one mag, so I would like a few more until my Ruger order comes through.

I bought a 24 mm Minolta AF lens for my SLR years ago at a steal on ebay (used of course). But I don't see those kind of deals on ebay anymore. Way too many people selling new stuff on there, and as you said, either overpaying, or paying retail. I do like to look for used kids books, and other such items that people are just trying to get rid of. Kinda like garage-saling.
