Not a Ruger, but I have a Remington Model 600 in .222 Remington. I was wondering if anyone else shoots this round and what powder they are using. This rifle only has an 18.5" barrel so I'm thinking I need a fairly fast powder. I have several reloading manuals but would like some first hand advise. Any suggestions?

4198 (IMR or Hodgdon) is a good place to start. I also like Reloder 7.
That said, you may get higher velocities (and possibly excellent accuracy) with some of the medium to slower powders listed for this cartridge. You'll just have to put up with more muzzle blast.

.

Everyone shoots a 222 Remington.

As well as the 222 Remington Magnum.

Have several in Remington 700, Savage, and Sako.

Use WW 748 and Sierra 52 grain Matchking HPBT.

My old 222 Rem M700 liked the aforementioned H335 and 50 gr. Speer TNT combo. Many prairie dogs, fox and javilina dropped to this load when I lived in West Texas. Later, it was turned into a 223 Ackley Improved that shoots wonderfully but I did miss the 222. While living in Canada over the past 5 years I picked up a Krico 222 and the same H335 50 gr Speer load was wonderfully accurate as well.

Thanks to all for the replies. These powders will give me a good place to start. I've just started reloading again after about 30 years and need all the information I can get. This is a wonderful little rifle that I've owned since the mid 70s. I remember loading some 4064 and Reloder 7 but want to get up to date. Thanks again.

Had several over the years. H322 has been the ticket for me w both 50gr & 55 gr bullets.
