They've been in the desert for a month or so. I believe the Conquistadors referred to them as "Flying jewels".

Wear a bright orange or yellow ball cap around the yard and you'll know when you have hummingbirds.

Finally got around to hanging my feeder last Sunday (5/14). Within an hour had 2 working it over. Been watching them for past few days. Need to get a 2nd one and watch them out front window. Great part of my morning.

It got down to about 25 degrees last night and my feeder was almost frozen solid this morning, but the hummingbirds were still around.

I haven't seen any yet but they must be around. We haven't had a frost in weeks.
I'll miss the hummingbirds and butterflies that were attracted to a mimosa tree we took disown last summer. But it was too close to the house, clogged the gutters and sprouted seedlings all over the yard.

I guess you didn't find any frozen hummingbird pop-sickles laying on the ground?
We had one that nested outside of my hydro-power biologists window at the office all winter (in the snow!)

Saw one at my neighbor's feeder yesterday here in North Central Washington. Had woodpeckers (flickers) going a month ago across the street.

Years back. Had Cape Honey Suckle growing on the side of the house. Heard a blast go past my ear. Like a shrapnel buzz. (yes I know that sound). I hit the deck. ??? Next day I hear it again. I turn to see a Hummer fly off. On the twig my head had hit was a nest with two eggs. Size of 2 peas. For the next weeks I watched them several times a day. One day there was a tiny beak sticking out of the shell. Hour later there is a pea size fuzz ball with big eyes looking at me. They say critters imprint on the first thing they see. I am now daddy bird. I talked to them every day. They got big and flew away. --- One year latter. I hear the buzz again. I turn. 6" in front of my nose is a Hummer. He sits there for some time then flies off.Now I am Grandpa bird. --- Like I said they will come into my room to watch TV with me. As long as I have food.
