I was wondering if someone with this gun would whip a caliper on the top sight rib and tell me how wide it is. The rib appears to be narrower and not as pronounced as my GP100 fixed sight.
Thanks in advance. j
When I measure my older blued GP100 I get .430" across the sight rib.

I get .414, eyeballing a mm marked ruler and converting at 25.4 per inch. Gun is a 4", fixed sight, blued, 38 only with fired cartridge dated spring, 2012.

Thanks. I'm open to gathering more info on the three inch. I am thinking about putting a Weigand front sight ramp on a Gp100. The specs are it is .250 x .250 x 1.75 inches long. You mill a groove on your rib back from the muzzle sinking it in to the rib probably .100 to 1.25" The rib accepts all the various Smith and Wesson DX removable sights.
Here's a picture I had installed on a shortened Redhawk. Just want to make sure there is enough beef in the rib for the installation.

Seems you always have something in the works Fred, good for you! I like those Pachmayr grips, Ed

My fixed sight GP has a 4inch barrel, and the rib is 13/32 of an inch wide.

Like Steven Wright says, it's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like a fool.
Some hobbies drift off into, if not obsession, then a bad habit. heh. I'm dangerous when bored.
Road tested it tonight. Dead on at 7 yards with a 158 grain bullet and 3.0 Red Dot. Just sweet to shoot. I really like this one.
I have to think if I want to spend money to install a SW revolver sight on the gun and change the front sight.
A fiber optic front or something a little more easy to see would be nice.

For what it's worth, I have a Wiley Clapp 3" GP100. The top rib is .750 wide. I have the Novak sights on mine. I measured just in front of the rear sight. The top rib is 2" long. Hope this helps yer project. bhk

I have a semi-recent (last year?) manufactured three-inch GP-100. It is new enough that it has the "Ruger GP-100" laser engraved (not roll marked) into the barrel.

Its front sight rib measures (eye-balling a ruler) either 11 mm or 7/16 inch. These convert to 0.433 and 0.4375, respectively.

I also get .430 on my 3" SS, short lug, using a dial caliper. Just out of curiosity I measured my 4" adj sight & 4" blue fixed, & found it to be the same .430". Both SS are 174 prefix s/n, Blue is 172.

Thanks a million for all the information. I appreciate it. I can figure it out now. I have my gun and it looks like the front sight rib from Weigand. Now that I have the fixed sight gun and like it so much, I may not spend the money and trifle with the gun. It's sweet!
