Price?
(They quoted me about $900 over the phone but that semed too high)

It was this Dakota No. 10 that got me day dreaming:

Check the pictures under the "You 257 Bob Fans" thread.

Cost me about a third of the price you quote.

I had one done about a year and a half ago. All said and done, it was close to $500, not including the engraving. This one is for sale at a good price, if anyone is interested. RJ

By the way there are different methods of color case hardening. One involves a chemical wash of some kind and produces subdued color variations. The old method with heated bone and charcoal gives more vivid colors. The Bob of mine mentioned above was done in the latter manner.

Mine, the one in the second post, I tried to sell for just for the cost of the engraving and CC, ($1500) there were no takers. I just exported 12 long guns to Romania, where I will be retiring to this spring. This engraved, CC'd 30-06 No.1 was not on the short list. So, I gave it to my best friend. I got a lot more satisfaction out of giving it away, than some stranger trying to steal it from me.

Doug's company does not do "cheap/quick" work, but there is no one better in this country.
He once said if he could afford each craftsman to deliver their own work to the customer's hand, he would. That's just the type of work ethic they have.

If you're in the Finger Lakes region (between Rochester & Canandaigua Lake), call and stop in.
