I've carried OWB cross draw for years, still possess all my OEM equipment. Like my dad told me...no matter how new, nice or fancy a tool is, you still have to be smarter than the too you're using.
I know what was meant, but "....when you were outside your pants" just cracked me up!It's not about the holsters folks…. In my opinion It's all about the shirt. I am a old man and not a computer wiz bang so don't know how to post a picture but Wear a banded bottom shirt. These shirts cover the pistol when you were outside your pants. Perfect for me. Look up Blair Catalog. Best banded bottom shirts out there. Both long and short sleeve. MD
May I ask what rig you use? I'm looking and can't find what I like without dropping close to $300. Probably use a shadow system MR 920 or my xdm elite 45 so I'd need some versatility. I edc my hellcat iwb presentlyIf I am carrying anything that needs more than a T shirt I go with a shoulder rig. I can carry anything from my Bond Arms to a Compact semi under a button up shirt over a t shirt. If I need a jacket it's a full size will 2 30rnd reloads on the other side.
I make my own. I loosely go with a Miami Classic design or a single strap across the neck and over the opposite shoulder to a belt loop for lightweight guns.May I ask what rig you use? Me too. No reason to be discreet on property. I open carry when in woods/scouting (or I did when I was able/soon again though hopefully). I switched to IWB in public and I'm still getting used to it. I have "Love Handles" that get in the way. Had to buy a couple extra sets of pants/shorts with a larger waist size specifically for wearing with the IWB holster I selected. The pants are a bit uncomfortable. More mentally I believe....I call them my "Clown Pants" because they seem so baggy. I like carrying in winter as its much easier to conceal OWB with winter clothing and pants that fit correctly. For me at home on my property it's open carry. In public it's concealed carry in an IWB.
So many good points in this post in my opinion. Honestly, even though I've had some events in my life that I was threatened/followed home/etc when off....these days I'm less likely to be in that position. But I will still be prepared as much as I can be from the Boogie Man of my past. You never know. The world is a crazy place and getting crazier all the time. I am, in my opinion, far more likely to be in need of my carry weapon when scouting the woods and farms. My main concern on certain properties were feral/wild dogs with a mouthful of edged weapons coming at me...and if you have been through edged weapon defensive training you know how fast a BG can move on you.If you're going to attach a holster to a belt. The process starts with a really good, strong belt. Then consider access to the gun. What I mean is are you like I was, working plain clothes and arresting felons nearly daily. Access was #1. My Glock was in my hand at some point on most working days. It also needed to be returned into a holster with one hand and easily.
The more the gun is hidden the more time and effort to get it out comes into question. Is it worth it? The normal CCW guy/gal likely will never draw the gun in self-defense anyway. Just food for thought on why and how you want to carry. IWB, OWB, cross draw, strong side draw, ankle holster, pocket holster, shoulder holster all has their place and uses. I will fall back on the 1st question, use a holster the way it was designed. Change it if needed.
