My uncle gave me his "WW II - navy years" Schrade 3-blade folding knife many years ago. He'd sharpened it so often that the blades were only 1/2 their original width. Still have it. Never carry it. It has too many fond memories to put at risk of loss (something I do all too often).

I used to carry a Schrade or Case 2-blade folder. But when I went to work (1975 after college) and started travelling I learned a valuable lesson. Once the airports began screening passengers for weapons, I forgot to leave my knife in the car (or stow it in my checked luggage) and it got confiscated. Ouch.

I now have a variety of folders from all of the usual suspects, plus a couple of K-bars (one of which I was issued while in the military). But rarely do I carry them - well, except for a couple of "cheap" NRA giveaways that I pack when doing chores around the yard.

I don't fish or hunt, so there's not a need for any knives used for such endeavors.

Fascinated by them? Yes. Addicted to them? No.

Most days I wear a Buck 110 Auto Elite on my belt in the Buck sheath. Also carry a Swiss Army "tinker" for opening boxes and occasional access to electrical panels/junction boxes etc... If the social situation warrants, I switch to a 110 Hunter Sport clipped to my right-hand front pocket and a Leatherman on my belt. Been known to slip a stockman into my left front pocket along with my wallet.

Nice. Bought my first one some years back and liked it so much I bought my wife one for her purse and them I saw a sale on their mini made with D2 steel and blacked out blade and O.D. Scales so I added that as a back up.

Lately been packing the Sog Trident A/T with spring assist. The 3.7 inch blade makes for a decent length and the assist opening is very quick. More rugged built now with steel liners and improved lock-up of blade. now available in a fixed blade tanto version with 4.2 inch blade and tension adj. sheath for around $95. Gotta get that one for a fixed blade.

Carried a knife since I was 7. Yes I carry one everywhere. I always need one. In the garden, opening mail, cutting stuff. I carry a spyderco para 2 most days. Have others for other days. This is what I carry at work everyday. When backpacking or on weekends I carry a smaller auto knife.
LOVE Bark River! I need the largest Bravo one of these days.

I've got some nice knives, but I don't carry one. I've tried carrying a knife from time to time. But I do t have any use for one day to day.

Most of the knives I like are kitchen knives. Custom kitchen knives are the best.

I am carrying a Byrd Cara Cara 2 or a Kershaw assisted and of course the Buck 301 I have carried since 1979. The folders have changed over the years but the Buck is always there.

I've carried a Buck 110 slim line with a clip on the handle for years. Clipped to my front pocket, it's always handy and very lightweight.
It's got an orange handle so obviously not tacti-kool.

Been carrying a knife since I was 8 ( and still have that Cub Scout knife), However, as a Boy scout I switched from folder to the unofficial Boy Scout sheath knife in my area- a Utica Sportsman-- (which I also still have along with my Boy Scout hatchet).- and never looked back. My EDC has been and always will be a full tang fixed blade ( usually a Case). While I have folders as backups I won't trust my life to that single pin. Back-ups are Buck, Case, and the occasional Schrade.

Even when lounging about the house? Not sure when I started the habit, but I find myself
always carrying something sharp. I am lucky enough to live in an area where I could carry a firearm if I chose to. But the blade is handier for me. I am not feeling paranoid, just feeling a little more prepared.
Yeah, me too, but it seems as if I am constantly using the blade for something around the house or the farm.
About paranoid, being paranoid does not mean that someone isn't after you.
It doesn't mean that some system isn't screwed up and doesn't require personal preparations.

I alternate between these two. (A Kershaw Oso Sweet or a Kershaw Cryo)

But this one is in my pocket every day. (Schrade Old Timer Custom Jr.)

Does this count, been carrying it for about 45 years, poor little thing is getting a bit rough.
Edit...sorry about the size, not sure I could have made it any bigger if I tried.

That toothpick looks awfully clean..
Your dentist does NOT approve.
Seriously. 45 years. He/she is shaking his/her head…
Unless you take your dentures out and just eat oatmeal mush….😉

Here are a Cold Steel Rajah II folding blade and a KaBar partially serrated blade tanto. The Rajah is too big to carry comfortably but the KaBar carries easily enough in a cross draw sheath. I have other CRKT knives that would be proper in this thread but they are in a storage container that I am not going to open at after 2am. I may post them later. View attachment 30461
Between the Rajah and your saps/blackjacks, you don't need a gun! Even for a grizzly!
Respect!

Carrying a knife on my person even in the house would suggest I may actually be wearing clothes, so... :)

I don't normally carry one on person within the house, always anytime outside. Both of us here being knife junkies we do have them laying all about the same as with pens. My husband being a flashlight junkie the same goes for those.

Looking back from the kitchen there are 8 or 10 knives that we just keep where we are likely to need one at anytime. The same goes for other rooms. Three are visible on the bar counter top: Spyderco Endura, Benchmade Bedlam and Spyderco Civilian. There is one in the drawer at this desk and two others on the cabinet my husband made for his Grandparents that is off to the right.

KUdos for your husband on his cabinet making skills. (I retired in 2011 after 40 years as a cabinet/fine furniture maker.)

Thank you. I will pass that on to him. :) One of his biggest hobbies besides amateur astronomy has long been woodworking. He made the desk here, the frame and swing on the patio and various furniture for family and friends.

My first real knife was a brand new USN MK II Fighting Knife purchased in 1950 from a wooden crate containing dozens of them at my favorite hobby shop. The knife handle was made up of stacked leather rounds and the blade polished steel. It came wrapped in an oil paper in a fiber sheath with hooks for pistol belt attachment. I paid 88 cents for it. I owned that beauty for more than 50 years until it was stolen from my son on a camping trip. To this day I haven't seen one as nice.
