i be loving my mark III bull.

the only complaint, is when shooting at black targets, the sights get lost. this isn't a big deal really, but i started looking at replacing the sights.

i came across this on the ruger site

http://shopruger.com/Mark-II_Mark-III-V ... nfo/84201/

are they worth the money?

something better out there?

as i said, not sure if i'll do it or not, just looking at options.

thanks

The guy I got my MkII 22/45 from had a MkIII Hunter with those sights and I really liked them. I've thought about picking up a set but have just never done it. I would likely just use the front sight and leave the standard rear blade in place, but it would be neat to have the option to change it.

I've got the MKIII Hunter with the v-notch and HI Viz front. I like the front site, but I copuldn't ever shoot very well with the rear v-notch. I was planning on just getting a square notched rear, but ended up getting a red dot. problem solved.

I bought that set for my 22/45. I like the front but like some here didn't care much for the v-notch. Just get the front hi viz replacement and leave the square notch rear that came on the gun.

I have a 4" Bull Barrel MKIII 22/45 that I replaced the front sight with a HiViz Fiber Optic Front Sight. I also had the V Notch Rear Sight from Ruger but could never get my rear sight low enough to get it zeroed so I put the square notch rear sight blade back in and have been happy ever since.

Might be better and might be even better than the ones I put on my MKIII target.... I think they were williams and had both the fiber optic front as well as rear... i'll have to check and see where I got them from either Williams or Millet one or the other.

Hi-Viz front site for my MKIII is on my list of upgrades to do. I'm going o use it with the standard square rear site which I have white outlined now

I plan to install Ruger's "kit" (front hi-viz and rear "Y" blade). I installed teh "Y" blade on my Single Six and it improved my targeting greatly. I was able to line up the standard front site better than the square sites that came on it.

I started putting Hi-Viz front sights on my MKII's way back when they first came out. We love them around here.
The V-notch rear was done by me so long ago, that to get a bead front I had to mill a front sight base & install a gold bead rifle sight. Until Hi-Viz came along.

I have a MK III Hunter, with the Hi Viz front, and (originally) the v-notch rear. I just replaced the v-notch with a square-notch. I haven't shot it yet, but I sure like the new sight picture.

Ruger sent me the square-notch blade free!

thanks for all the replies!

i can't access the shopruger site for some reason. they have the set (front and rear) of sights that i link to in the initial post. they also have just the front sight with different size "pipes"

both are the same price.

most in this thread are liking the square rear sights that came with the gun.

my question - if i do order, should i go ahead and get the front and rear sights and decide if i like the rear or not?

or just get the front with different size pipes? how important is having different sizes?

I removed the rear sight blade from my MkIII and filled the groove outlining the square notch with a white crayon. Then I masked-off and painted a bright-orange stripe on the front sight.

I can't really offer an opinion about fiber-optic sights for the pistol since I've never tried them. I'd like to though.

another option....
sometimes when shooting black targets with my mkIII target, I put a drop of pink nail polish on the front sight, makes it much easier to see and cleans right off for plinking in the bright sun.
